Assistant Project Planner

Job Description

Siemens Mobility are currently recruiting for an Assistant Project Planner for our Rail Electrification business in London. The Assistant Project Planner works under the direction of the Senior Planning Manager and Senior Planner to assist in the creation of tender, baseline and progressed programmes for implementation by the project team. The Assistant Project Planner will be able to work within a team to track project progress, report slippages and capture change on a periodic basis.

What will be my Responsibilities?

  • Support the Planning Team to ensure logically linked, cost and resource loaded programmes are developed and monitored using Primavera P6.
  • Actively pursues on-the-job development under the guidance of Senior Planners
  • Able to plan individual learning and development around a busy working diary
  • Liaise with Project Managers to assess tender programme requirements from technical, contractual and commercial documentation and ensure programmes align to internal/external requirements
  • Collaborate with design, operational and estimating colleagues at all phases of the project lifecycle to ensure that programmes are developed and maintained to the highest of standards that will achieve the best possible business outcomes
  • Able to identify how key milestones & dependencies impact project success and bring any deviations to the attention of the project team
  • Support Project Managers by reviewing programmes to ensure they are realistic and robust
  • Conduct site visits and engage with site teams to verify project progress and further understanding of site operations and the challenges faced by site teams.
  • Attend progress meetings as required, both internal and external, to report on progress and risk, and to provide programme support to the project team
  • Responsible to keep accurate records and complete functional tasks on business information systems
  • Promote planning best practice throughout all levels of the business at all opportunities and take part in business improvement and professional development activities
  • Input into the development of team spirit and trustworthiness within project team

What Qualifications and Experience do I need?

  • Applicants must hold a qualification to HNC or equivalent relevant to the role
  • Degree qualified in Engineering / Project Management (preferred)
  • Experience of planning software packages (e.g. MS Project or Primavera P6)
  • An awareness of different forms of contract
  • Good capability in MS Office applications, in particular, MS Excel
  • Commercial awareness
  • Self-starter able to take the initiative
  • Positive approach to problems and a provider of solutions
  • Strong communication skills & ability in terms of, written & verbal communication; presentation skills; problem identification, categorisation and solving; people skills.
