Manufacturing Technician – Coatings

Position Overview:


This position is for a Manufacturing Technician in the Charlotte Combustion Hot Gas Parts organization.   The successful candidate will be working with a team of manufacturing, design and service engineers and with shop floor personnel, to maintain and develop Thermal and Wear Coating processes.  




The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the Thermal Spray processes used to manufacture and repair Combustion components. The candidate will be expected to operate the equipment, troubleshoot any technical issues, perform programming edits and train other employees for a quality process. They would also have the coating vocabulary to converse with the engineering team, be able to rebuild the thermal spray guns, assess and recommend appropriate stocking levels for replacement parts and provide input for appropriate fixturing. The preferred candidate will demonstrate the ability to optimize the pre- and post- processing of coated components. In addition, the candidate will support Manufacturing Engineers and Materials Engineers in the development and qualification of new coating technologies and applications.


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Technical or Manufacturing experience in related field

  • 5+ years of manufacturing or coating operational experience

  • Knowledge of HVOF and APS Coatings.

  • Coating equipment knowledge; 3MB Gun, APS hardware

  • Ability to interpret drawings and process specifications

  • Attention to detail/multitasking.

  • Focus on quality and continuous improvement.

  • Record keeping of tests and changes for qualifications and approval process.



Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Thermal barrier and wear coating applications

  • Non-destructive inspection techniques

  • Lean manufacturing experience
