Position Overview

Siemens Healthcare Laboratory (SHL), located in Berkeley, CA, is CLIA accredited and state licensed clinical laboratory. The laboratory implements, validates, and provides testing services for novel technologies, in clinical trial, clinical laboratory diagnostic testing and pharmaceutical partnerships.

The Scientist, Sr.,(Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Technical Specialist) performs moderate and high complexity clinical laboratory analyses and technical oversight to SHL CLIA laboratory operations; including training, competency assessment, quality control review, occurrence management, supply management / reagent qualification, quality metrics, proficiency testing and technical review of documentation. Schedules and coordinates testing to meet turn around requirements.

Position Requirements:

  • Requires current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license with a BS/BA in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science
  • Maintains licensure and certification for the laboratory.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Maintains working knowledge of CLIA regulations through participation with audits.
  • Ensures that patient results are reported only when test systems are functioning properly and any necessary corrective actions have been taken. 
  • Oversees training and competency assessment of other Technical Specialists and Clinical Laboratory Scientists assigned to perform testing in area of responsibility

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfort with technology solutions.
  • Ability to identifies and initiate resolutions for problems.
  • Schedule flexibility

 

Work Interactions

  • Reports to Head, Siemens Healthcare Laboratory Operations
  • Coordinates internally with SHL colleagues, R&D Scientists and the commercial/business development team
  • Coordinates externally with customers, clients, vendors and clinical trial participants

 

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and coordinates testing to meet turn around requirements.
  • Provides technical expertise and peer consultation in designated area of responsibility.
  • Oversees and reviews quality control, preventative maintenance, reagent inventory and qualification. Responsible for quality control review and sign-off prior to reporting patient’s results.
  • Verifies testing procedures and establishes assay performance characteristics.
  • Performs moderate and highly complex clinical laboratory analyses and reporting.
  • Performs complex troubleshooting and documents remedial actions and performing as expected.
  • Coordinates Proficiency Testing Program.
  • Participates in internal and external audits and inspections.

 



Experience:

Required:

  • Requires current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license with a BS/BA in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science
  • 2-4 years of successful experience in a clinical laboratory
  • Knowledge and experience with CLIA laboratory processes and operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent technology skills, Microsoft Office Suite

 

Preferred:

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems, Document Control and Training Systems, Microsoft Office
  • Workflow business process mapping
  • Project Management experience

 

Education:     

California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license with a BA/BS in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science

Skills:

Successfully applies complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in required area of specialization. Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's business practices and issues.
