The Platform Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) Staff Engineer is part of the Global Engineering Organization’s R&D team and represents the GEO R&D team as a Technical Lead on change requests meeting desired business outcomes. The PLE Team is responsible to develop and maintain engineering documentation and verification activities for new products throughout the lifecycle of the instrument including planning for changes in manufacturing. On the component level, responsible for identifying, qualifying, documenting and releasing components from a variety of sources for our products. Investigate the impact of supplier product change and end-of-life notifications on products for engineering/purchasing. The (PLE) Staff Engineer should have a successful track record of leading technical instrument systems development projects of significant size, scope and complexity in the medical device industry, or similar experience. The PLE Staff Engineer works closely with the Design Engineering teams and department stakeholders with responsibility to ensure product and business value propositions are met. The PLE Staff Engineer is part of the Platform Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) organization and reports to the Head of PLE.
Supports the application and development processes to analyze, design, troubleshoot, implement and enhance hardware systems. May use analytical theories and methodologies to investigate, analyze, design, program, document, enhance, implement and maintain Platforms, Instruments, Sub-Systems and or individual components. Directs complex efforts in the support of existing hardware. Conceptualizes complex design, development, testing, and modification of hardware. Directs the quality process by the rigorous and detailed execution of module, sub-system and system test procedures. Directs the designing, developing, and implementing of complex hardware solutions while adhering to manufacturing capabilities. Directs the completion of all engineering documentation to support a design effort. Directs the development of estimates for complex tasks, supporting the process for developing and maintaining schedules, cost and quality. Conceptualizes and publishes complex technical writings. Directs review of complex specifications and other documentation to evaluate hardware engineering requirements. Preempts potential problems and provides effective solutions in reaction to application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes. Displays an high level of critical thinking in applying principles, theories, and concepts on a wide range of problems.
Demonstrates ability to advance technologies, processes, and practices in area of specialization or discipline.Demonstrates extensive knowledge of organization's business practices and issues faced and contributes to problem resolution of those issues. Develops team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects. Provide critical technical guidance to associates and upper management.
BS/MS Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 5 years work experience in PLM
Minimum 10+ years of total work experience in product development related field
Expert technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
- Expert knowledge of mechanical/electrical datasheets
- Self-motivated, self-organized and results-oriented
- Solid communication and coordination skills
- Team player with professional/positive personal presence
- Domestic travel required (~5-10%)
- International travel possible (~<5%)
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Experience with modelling and drafting tools (e.g. Nx, SolidWorks, ProE,etc)
- Work experience in Teamcenter, SAP P41, and/or TFS
- Experience in Release/Configuration Engineering
