CNC Machinist

Job Description

Under limited supervision, responsibility to program, setup, and operate precision machining operation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Setting up CNC machining center, program and optimize CNC programs, clamping of girders and truck frames, independent work of work orders and small series, independent quality assurance according to technical targets and schedules, shift work, overtime.

Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.  Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.   Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with operating CNC machines with SINUMERIK control, professional competence for machining complex designs, rail vehicle manufacturing (optional), ability to work in a team, good communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Three years of machining and/or fabrication experience.  Requires working knowledge of welding procedures. Requires working knowledge CNC programming. Professional training as machining technician, machine operator, lathe operator Reading, writing and math skills equivalent to those obtained from completion of high school or commensurate experience.

Skills:

Understanding technical drawings and documents, multiple years of job experience, ability to work independently

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision and Depth perception.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
