Wind Service Engineer (Composites) - NA Region (Orlando, FL)

As a key member of the Service Technology team, the Composite Engineer will be responsible for coordination of technical case management within the North America region, departmental process definition, internal department communication, in addition to individual contribution to the solution of technical issues affecting the regional fleet.


    Provide engineering support to the Operations team by performing the following activities:

      Technical assessment in the functionality, health and performance of blades and composites elements within a wind turbine. Identify and address deficiencies in a timely and effective manner

      Prepare and review technical reports depicting blade non-conformances and failures

      Provide technical advice in the process of blade matching and balancing

      Lead and support Root Cause Analysis investigations for blade and other composite components

      Develop work instructions, field procedures and assess job hazards

      Interact with internal and external customers by providing technical advice and offering engineering solutions

      Provide technical support and guidance to the Heavy Lift team in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures to be used in the replacement of blades

      Identify and evaluate new technologies in the diagnosis of blade deficiencies

      Recognize technical issues trends and occurrences within the fleet and prepare technical awareness documentation to be followed by the site operations team

      Work in collaboration with the Warranty Management group in assessing and evaluating blades related warranty claims

      Prepare escalation reports to other engineering and quality departments

      Support crisis management team in the case of blade failure incidents

      Review / confirm findings discovered during routine blade inspections

    Support the after-market team by providing technical advice in existing engineering business opportunities by identifying technical solutions that can be offered to existing customers

    Provide technical support for Supply Chain and Quality Management activities for vendor qualification/evaluation as well as technical responses for material solution and dispositions

    Share customer experiences, technical issues and engineering solutions with colleagues from other regions within the organization

    Describe complex technical issues and their solutions and prepare technical reports for internal and external customers by using excellent oral and written communications skills

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:

    BS degree in Composite, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

    Strong analytical skills and problem-solve attitude is key to this position

    Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements and priorities for multiple projects or assignments.

    Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as in a team setup.

    Must be capable of climbing wind turbine towers and support field investigations

    Demonstrate competency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, P. Point and Outlook)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

    SGRE Blade C or D certification or other industry equivalents preferred, but not required

    5+ years of advance field or factory repair experience on wind turbine blades is highly desirable.
