Tech Writer 4 Staff Job Description
This position is for a senior technical writer with exceptional verbal and written communication skills to develop user manuals, technical instructions, online help, and other technical publications for healthcare diagnostic analyzers and automation systems. Expert level knowledge and skills with Adobe FrameMaker is required, as well as user level experience with DITA XML and/or content management systems. Must be self-sufficient to produce deliverables using documentation plans, specifications, prototypes, and other resources. Must be experienced in researching technical and engineering information, including drawings, design and test specifications, product prototypes, and interviews with subject matter experts. Must be able to effectively synthesize complex technical information to provide easy to understand instructions.
This position requires project leadership and/or project management experience. Must have solid planning and organizational skills, and a proven record of managing complex projects and meeting deadlines. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Project leadership activities include defining schedules, preparing resource requirements and translation cost estimates, preparing plans and reports, communicating timely status, and managing all aspects of labeling projects from start to completion.
Responsibilities and Knowledge
This individual will complete all phases of the documentation development cycle, including defining document scope and requirements, managing technical reviews and the translation proofreading process, and releasing deliverables through a documentation design control system. This individual must be an experienced accountable professional with a good understanding of regulated industry practices. Experience working with translation vendors for the localization of content is a plus. Knowledge of immunoassay or chemistry diagnostic systems is a strong plus.
Experience and Education
Typically 8-10 years of technical writing experience in a related field and successful demonstration of Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. This candidate should have a BS/BA in a related discipline or an advanced degree.
