Job Description:

Position Overview


Support the electronics manufacturing operations with respect to the product assembly process, equipment, methods, and, documentation. The incumbent may function as a lead project engineer on complex projects, or, as a manufacturing project leader for projects of limited scope. The incumbent will plan, design, acquire, and, implement or modify manufacturing assembly processes in response to new product introductions, engineering change orders, or, continuous improvement activities.


The primary accountabilities are:

  • Maintaining high production first pass yields
  • Lean improvements in assigned electronics work cells
  • Implementing engineering change order requests
  • Root cause analysis of production problems and implementation of problem resolution through the use of Lean structured practical problem solving methods
  • Identifying assembled product country of origin based upon substantial transformation criteria

The incumbent engineer will report to the 'Manager of Manufacturing Technical Services' who reports to the 'Senior Manager of Manufacturing Operations'.





Maintain assigned work cells to targeted goals with respect to:

  • First Pass Yield
  • Process Improvements
  • Key Process Indicators
  • Lean Implementation

Specific job tasks and functions include:

  • Floor Support - Responsible for maintaining first pass yield in assigned electronics work cells above target level
  • Responsible for determining root cause analysis for production issues by using standardized troubleshooting tools
  • Planning and development duties will include creation of new or modified processes, estimating project expenses and capital spending, creation of capital appropriation requests, and, the creation of budgets and validation plans
  • Author or maintain process or project documentation including project plans, work instructions, assembly routings, validation plans and reports
  • Supports the successful completion of projects by providing time estimates of development tasks, and, supporting project management in risk identification, analysis, and, investigation to overcome technical obstacles, and, show a strong commitment to meeting deadlines
  • Authors and understands technical documentation including internal process specifications, user guidelines, and, third party technologies as required for manufacturing assembly process development
  • Provides formal approval of document content
  • Evaluates and investigates third party products, development tools and development processes
  • Provides technical support to projects by working with third party vendors to resolve technical issues, and, may author feasibility reports and performance studies
  • Develops a complete understanding of corporate product lines and technologies that includes knowledge of product functionality that includes knowledge of product functionality and end-user operations
  • Actively pursues new technologies, new processes, and, innovative practices
  • Functions as the administrator for product and packaging label creation, approval, system software maintenance and updates, database management, and, IT network integrity for factory-wide printers and their PCs 


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, or, Electrical/Electronics Engineering
  • 10 years in a manufacturing environment
  • Required amount of travel with the position < 5%
  • Required knowledge, skills, or, expertise:
    • Lean manufacturing experience
    • Experience in writing process or project documentation including project plans, project schedules, assembly work instructions, assembly routings with rates, validation plans and reports
    • Proven ability of process improvements in a manufacturing environment
    • Knowledge pertaining to the assembly and test of simple to complex electronics-based product
    • Design of assembly fixtures and jigs
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and, advanced problem-solving skills
    • Team player who is self motivated and self-manages schedules and priorities well
    • Familiar with Bartender printer database software and systems

  • SAP MRP System
  • ISO standards and system compliance
  • Bartender software
  • Printers and their PC operating system management
  • IT network management
