Siemens Intelligent Traffic Solutions
On highways, down inner city streets, through tunnels and railway crossings. An endless stream of cars, trains, buses. Traffic is a complex, nonstop challenge for major city centers and small communities alike. Coordinating traffic, staying on top of its ebbs and flows, is a complex, demanding task for emergency support personnel, city planners and transportation system operators everywhere.
Reliable network communications are a critical necessity for monitoring and managing increasingly complex transportation infrastructures. Knowing what is happening and where, from tracking buses and trains on their routes, to locating and addressing stalled vehicles, to connecting drivers with important information about road and traffic conditions – effective traffic management demands intelligent transportation systems.
Position Overview:
The Principal Engineer; Advanced Software Solutions for Intelligent Traffic Solutions (ITS). This position will lead
the technical sales engineers and act as the subject matter expert for Siemens ITS product offerings for Adaptive, ATMS and Connected Vehicle solutions. You will take the technical lead role in:
  • Managing team of ITS sales engineers
  • Delivering ITS solutions throughout all stages of the sales process including
  • Consultative selling activities advising customers on solution benefits 
You will take an Integral role in bids and proposals for new projects. Review and establish offerings for new projects and identify and plan technical strategy for key project acquisition.
This is a leadership role within Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems division.
  • Lead and mentor the technical sales team to ensure opportunity assignment and team technical competencies
  • Prepare and present technical presentations for customers to explain the benefits of Siemens solutions.
  • Author and review technical reports
  • Prepare accurate design and labor estimates to meet the Client's needs.
  • Act as technical lead on advanced SW solution projects ( ATMS,  Adaptive, Connected Vehicle) including generation and review of requirements and design documents, and technical oversight of implementation and deployment activities
  • Develop and present technical concepts for customized Advanced SW solutions to customers, product management, sales team, and management.
  • Participates in customer meetings and presentations, acting as an ITS technical expert
  • Communicate with procurement, outside vendors, consultants and partners as part of technical lead and project delivery oversight activities
  • Support proposal responses by reviewing RFP requirements, designing and describing technical solutions, and other written documentation as necessary to support proposal generation efforts
  • Support implementation of Advanced SW solutions projects
  • Keep up to date with the industry and gather market and competitor intelligence in the area of ITS Advanced SW solutions
  • Present at regional and national conferences on Siemens ITS technology and solutions
  • Provide specialized technical training to customer and distributor technical staff
  • Develop sales training and technical training to internal and external sales channels
 Competencies required for this job include:
  • Significant experience (8+ years) in the ITS industry
  • Experience with advanced traffic management systems and adaptive traffic control systems
  • -Able to translate user requirements into effective system designs using appropriate ITS technology
  • A strong technical background with demonstrable experience in:
    •  traffic signal control systems
    • Adaptive  (SCOOT, ACS Lite, Peer to Peer)
    • Connected Vehicle (V2i, RSU)
  • Knowledgeable in industry standards
  • Proven project development skills, including ability to manage multiple projects for various clients
  • Excellent problem solving skills and able to develop new and innovative ideas / solutions
  • Experience in Business and commercial development
  • Ability to communicate ITS designs and principles to internal project managers and clients.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
  • Flexibility to manage diverse workload.
  • Ability to work both as part of a sophisticated multi-disciplinary team as well as possessing the ability to work independently to solve problems.
  • Experience working with DoT’s and major city transportation organizations
  • Member of relevant professional institution
  • Self-motivated, but also a team player.
  • Willing to travel ~50%
BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA preferred.
