Job Description:

R&D Machinist

Position Overview


  • Collaborate with engineers for quick development of medical instrumentation

  • Operate manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to create proof of concept prototypes and test fixtures
  • Work with an engineering manager and prototype shops in New Jersey and New York to determine the fabrication and prototype needs of the business going forward



  • Creation of prototype components, assemblies, test fixtures

  • Create inspection documentation

  • Create dxfs and CAM(Computer aided manufacturing) profiles/tool paths for machining prototypes

  • Setup and Run 3D printing equipment

  • Create tooling and prototypes using vacuum forming equipment

  • Manage prototype shop inventory and purchase orders

  • Load balance in house capability with outside vendors

  • Provide manufacturability feedback to engineering organization

  • Manage set of calibrated measurement instruments



Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • 5-10 year experience with both manual and CNC operation

  • Skill in operating precision measurement tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical specifications and drawings

  • Computer savvy with working knowledge of  CAD/CAM

  • Mechanical aptitude and good math skills

  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach

  • Good communication abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certificate or diploma in engineering or relevant discipline is a plus

  • Travel 0-5%
