Job Description:

Siemens Rail Automation is seeking to hire our next Director of R&D and Digitalization.  In this role, you will drive leadership both internally and externally to position Siemens Mobility-Rail Automation as a pioneer within the emerging digitalization environment, product and system development of safety-critical rail systems, and communications and user interfaces.  You will also develop and implement a forward-thinking approach across the organization, as well as within the rail industry, to deliver an advanced suite of technology services. 
 
You will work with our freight and transit customers (acting as an R&D Ambassador) to create portfolio strategies in these new digital business fields.  In addition, we'd also need for you to provide proactive perspectives on transformational initiatives and partner with the Head of our Business Unit and other department leaders to assess and select technologies that contribute to digitalization. This position can sit in New York, NY, Pittsburgh, PA or Louisville, KY.
 
In this role, you will be working with local US management, HQ (Germany) management, various business segment leaders, and peers within Engineering, Project Management, and Product Line Management.  Your team will consist of 50-100 employees to include up to 10 direct reports (managers of staff) and indirect reports in 5 locations.  You will primarily be traveling between New York, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Jacksonville, and Minneapolis on average 10 days/month, but keep your passport up to date as you'll also be traveling to Europe 3 times/year.  The strategic decisions you'll be making will revolve around team structure and the changing environments, portfolio decisions and the products we offer our customers, and the investment decisions surrounding those products.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
-Lead the organization in traditional R&D by developing its people, process, projects, and products
-Oversee Engineering activities - covering all aspects of requirements engineering, design, agile HW/SW development, test and V&V
-Define and ensure implementation of digitalization strategy, concepts, and roadmaps for Rail Automation (sometimes without a clear vision)
-Manage all mission-critical digitalization programs (big data management, predictive maintenance automation) in terms of progress, budget adherence and communication
-Lead change programs and manage competence development within your team
-Orchestrate the enhancement of internal methodologies and the transfer of knowledge to new hires
-Develop strategies and implement innovative programs to increase global competitiveness, but also using your network making international collaboration effective
-Support customer projects, bids, and proposals as you guide strategic, operational, and organizational recommendations for the future development of Rail Automation digitalization services
 
Required Knowledge/Education/Skills:
-BA or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
-Proven experience as a creator of strategy, not just maintaining or enhancing current product line(s)
-Strong interpersonal, management, negotiation and presentation skills
-Expert proficiency in Program Management with large, complex, and new initiatives
-7-10 years of diverse roles and increasing leadership responsibilities across major projects and programs within the Rail Industry
-Project Management and Change Management experience
