Job Description:

Position Overview
 
The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of system software and hardware used by groups in the development, release, maintenance and support of commercial software products.  Provides a high level of support and consulting in more than one environment, usually requiring research.  Performs system administration, monitoring, upgrades, maintenance, installation, setup, configuration, testing and deployment in more than one environment.  Plans, documents and leads complex technical groups, projects, and completes project tasks; analyzes detailed product issues.  Evaluates new technologies and methods.  Assists in automating procedures.  Helps define and implement system processes. Works with minimal supervision on complex projects with wide latitude for independent discretion and judgment. Highly skilled with extensive proficiency and technical expertise.
 
The Infrastructure Engineer Reports to the Manager of Technical Infrastructure, Milford Systems.
 
Responsibilities
  • Installation and support of system software and hardware used by development groups at the Milford site.
  • System administration, monitoring, upgrading, maintenance, installation, setup, configuration, testing and deployment of systems within Unix/Linux environments. 
  • Working with other groups to develop and ensure consistency of internal policies and procedures, while maintaining security procedures at the site is important. 
  • Communicating clearly, both verbally and in writing, regarding issues and/or requirements, and being able to evaluate new technologies and methods are also required for this position.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience in a computer environment
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Linux environment, including SuSE, RedHat and CentOS.
  • Experience with Installation, Configuration, Upgrading, monitoring and troubleshooting Unix/Linux environments.
  • Excellent customer service attitude.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience working in a multiple vendor platform environment.
  • Experience installing and maintaining system software.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware components and their interaction with operating system software, and excellent troubleshooting skills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math or Computer Science
  • 2 or more years experience in support of Apache web servers, MySQL, NFS/Autofs, Gitlab, Chef, Nagios and Ceph.
  • 2+ years of experience in Windows administration experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with shared storage on Linux environments (NFS/iSCSI/vSAN).
  • Basic networking knowledge (especially switching).
  • 2+ years of experience with Blade server/Chassis administration.
  • Experience in installing, maintaining and supporting system software and hardware.
  • Ability to perform system administration for Windows and/or Unix/Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with defining, implementing and automating system processes.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with multiple teams.
  • 2 or more years of experience supporting Windows environments.
  • 2 or more years experience in support of Apache web servers, MySQL, NFS/Autofs, Gitlab, Chef, Nagios and Ceph.
  • Basic networking knowledge (especially switching).
