Job Description:

The VP of Aerospace & Defense Industry Strategy position is responsible for running the Industry position for the Aerospace & Defense segment within Siemens PLM Software Industry Group.  The Industry Team is comprised of 9 industry segments.   The Aerospace & Defense Industry is defined to in Aerospace & Defense include sub-segments of aircraft and airframe, aero-engine, land systems, space systems, avionics and defense electronics, and government agencies.
The position has responsibility for driving product development requirements to meet the aerospace and defense industry needs. This involves both understanding strategic product development requirements and rationalizing specific customer inputs to insure that the inputs are generic for the aerospace and defense industry. In addition to this inbound view, the position is responsible for the Aerospace and Defense outbound “Go to Market” messaging and collateral.  This position is also responsible for the development of business process solutions that utilize the Siemens portfolio to solve critical Aerospace and Defense. In addition, this position requires the ability to make presentations to CXO and VP customer level personnel.
The position requires interfacing and working with a diverse set of internal as well as customer personnel. The ability to work in a team environment is essential. The successful candidate must be able to provide strategic direction in a complex environment.
From an inbound perspective, the position is responsible for shaping our product development priorities, technologies, and portfolio investments.     In this portion of the job, the person will have accountability for defining the product directions and investment priorities based on market trends, competitive assessments, customer inputs, and industry knowledge.   The individual will have to define and work with the various product groups to help outline and define gaps and priorities and work the product group’s managers and technical teams to define and flush out technical issues, gaps, and specific Aerospace & Defense required solutions.
From an outbound perspective, the position has several dimensions.  Partnering with the marketing team, the individual will have responsibility for developing “Go to Market” strategies and messaging.   Additionally, the individual will have responsibility for speaking at major internal Siemens PLM events and external industry events and forums across the globe. 
For solution development, the individual will work with other members of the organization to develop templates and solutions that leverage industry best practices to help customers shorten their deployment times and realize business benefits quicker. The successful candidate will have the business process knowledge to define the solution process requirements.  
The individual will also work with sales teams to help with pursuits of large and key deals. The major portion of this is assisting the sales team with the key messaging, sales strategy, and reviewing specific account plans. Presenting the Siemens Aerospace and Defense strategy and vision as well as the business value of the business process solutions is another key element of this position.
The individual will have responsibility for developing an annual industry vertical specific business plan that covers market trends, competitive evaluations, solution & technology gaps, and recommended priorities and actions for sales.   The person will also have accountability for working these recommendations and actions with country managers and Aerospace and Defense team across the globe to optimize market growth and expansion.   The business plan must also address M&A priority and targets.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Education:  Must have a background in engineering with a MBA a plus.
Experience:  Minimum 20 years of Aerospace & Defense experience with understanding and experience with Aerospace & Defense Business processes. The successful candidate should have senior level experience in project engineering (required) and program management (preferred). An overall knowledge of the manufacturing processes is a plus. Exposure to CAD/CAM/CAE, PLM, Information Technology also required although PLM expertise is secondary to knowledge of Engineering and product development overall.
