Job Description:

Position Overview

The Rail Electrification business unit of Siemens supplies electrical substation and overhead catenary equipment in the US and Canadian rail market. The candidate leads a team of bid managers and business developers and will be responsible for the maximization of the market penetration and profitable growth. You will identify, drive and develops short/medium/long term business opportunities jointly with Customer Account Mangers and prepares a bid or proposal strategy to maximize the probability to win and secure the opportunity. The position reports to the Head of the Siemens Turnkey Projects and Rail Electrification Unit




  • Acts as the advocate for the customer’s interests and shows a personal long-term commitment for his customer


  • Identifies the strategic projects and opportunities which make up the Business Development Plan and the Bid Pipeline


  • Leads, coordinates and motivates his team and local Customer Account managers in order to achieve a significant and profitable business growth in the existing Rail Electrification market and new business fields with focus on digitalization


  • Receives and reviews the Request for Bid/Proposal documents from the Customer and evaluates the scope that Siemens bid on and the requirements that will need to be complied with to prepare a compliant bid.


  • Coordinates with the engineering, production and procurement department within the organization to successfully prepare the bid on time and to the customer requirements


  • Prepares and presents convincing bid strategies for  bid decision and bid approval to regional and headquarter management


  • Represents the business in all strategic bid development activities and acts as interface between Headquarter and the local organization


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Degree in electrical engineering preferred


  • Deep professional know-how and experience in electrical substation engineering, project management or business development


  • Solid professional judgment and problem solving competence


  • Work experience: 8 years


  • Amount of travel with the position: 30%
