Electro-Optical Systems Engineer, Senior
The Electro-Optical Systems Engineer is part of the dedicated Point of Care (POC) Sustaining Engineering(SEN) team responsible for coordinating support activities for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) instruments and accompanying eco-system products. The team works closely with R&D, Service, Manufacturing, and Quality to drive corrective actions in response to field issues, coordinate platform enhancements, resolve manufacturing obsolescence or quality issues, implement cost reduction programs, and respond to new regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing electrical engineering, optical system and component support, as well as some project management support for SEN. Daily activities will include investigating hardware complaints, researching and implementing alternative instrument components and designs, identifying lower cost solutions, developing validation plans, and ensuring timely execution of those plans.
Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years experience in electronics development of instrumentation
Fundamental understanding of optics principles and signal processing is required, a candidate having electro-optics experience is more desirable (e.g. working with photodiodes and image sensors and their signal processing circuits and algorithms, data acquisition system techniques, light sources and spectroscopy)
Electrical motor experience is a plus
Good understanding of basic multidisciplinary engineering fundamentals and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams
Hands-on experience with analog and digital design, board layout and qualification, programmable logic and control system development, especially for electromechanical devices
Experience with transmission and reflectance spectroscopy is a plus
Medical device experience or experience in a regulated environment is a plus
The ability to function well both independently and as part of an integrated team
Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential
Experience with Mentor Graphics PADS, Mentor Graphics Xpedition, or equivalent ECAD/ EDA programs is necessary
Experience with LabVIEW and Minitab is a plus
Experience with Matlab and TracePro is a plus
