Job Description

Position Overview:
 
Flender Corporation a Siemens Company, as part of its Winergy branded business, located in Elgin, IL is seeking a qualified and energetic Service Technician for its aftermarket and after-sales organization. The Technician will play a significant role in servicing Wind Turbine Gear Box repairs that best fits our customers’ needs.  The Technician will work closely with Aftermarket Sales, AfterSales Officers (ASO), Applications Engineering, its German and Chinese affiliates, certified service providers (CSPs), and customers in the industrial, construction and utility markets on technical, contractual and commercial issues.
 
Duties will also include supporting and servicing projects and campaigns to ensure optimal plant performance, efficiency, and safety.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Major Duties - Drive service competencies in the following areas:
•       In-House Training, lead training activities for factory and CSP courses, develop / use contractual solutions to maintain and enhance training capabilities, align proper paperwork, tooling and parts, provide evaluation to rate CSP’s training competencies.
•       Field Service Activities (Paid Services), support ASO’s in the creation of RFQ’s for CSP services, and if needed, evaluate bids and award CSP for services.  Align with Order Management to support requisitions, orders, and invoice reconciliation.  Review and / or generate field reports and aligning on RCA items.
•       Field Service Activities (Warranty Services), provide alternative CSP support (to assist ASOs) as necessary, assist in site training and evaluating CSP competency, align with ASOs for best deployment of CSP services, provide CSP support, align with Order Management to support requisitions, orders, and invoice reconciliation.  If needed, inspect equipment and reporting results for repair.
•       Field Training, provide CSP support, as necessary, site train and evaluate CSP competency, establish and maintain key CSP metrics and KPI’s, provide evaluation to rate CSP’s training competencies.  Participate as needed in on-site training of Customer service staff on different types of assignments whether that be OEM or non-OEM frames and inspecting equipment and reporting results for repair. 
•       Service Tooling, evaluate up-tower and training tooling as complete and in working condition, assist in providing technical data to help with finalizing required documentation for domestic and international shipments, align with Engineering and ECC departments for support, drive up-tower and training tooling enhancements as well as support new tooling development, and assist in tracking all Company owned up-tower tooling.
•       Communicate status of field service projects to appropriate team members in a timely manner.
 
Minor Duties:
•       Provide technical input in the development of up-tower work instructions, documentation support, all within alignment with affiliates
•       Support AfterSales Officers by providing technical resources / input to support warranty claims and assist (if needed) on claims
•       Support Engineering, provide guidance to up-tower solutions / Work Instructions, advise on tooling development, and align with up-tower part solutions
•       Reviewing inspection data, pictures and abnormalities with some ability to make recommendations based on these findings
•       Provide borescope services for in-house Production requirements
 
Required and Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:

Wind Turbine gearbox disassembly/reassembly, up-tower repair and inspection
Sound technical judgment
Field Service operations, procedures and computer systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Problem solving
Effective communication, both written and verbal (Spanish speaking a plus)
Initiative and desire to learn
Technical aptitude with vocational training a plus
Ability to analyze customer’s technical specifications, drawings and data comprehension.
Team player with ability to perform and prioritize multiple, tasks.  
PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SharePoint, SAP, TeamCenter.
Familiarity with borescopes and borescope techniques to analyze industrial internal equipment (bearings and gearing)
 
Position Description:
 
Assist on directing on-site teams of CSPs and customer field technicians in the safe installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of Customer's equipment; including schedule requirements and efficient utilization of resources.
Interface with team members to provide expertise to Project Manager(s), technical teams, division and product-line management, as well as Customer management.
Promote maximum Customer satisfaction with the Flender’s capabilities and potential, and Flender’s equipment reliability and availability.
Ensure the Customer's technical concerns are adequately addressed.
Responsible for own travel planning and generation of expense reports.
Provide in-house training on all models of wind turbine gear box repairs to field service technicians, in-house staff, certified service providers, OEMs and customers.
