Job Description:

The Layout Design Specialist is an individual contributor role reporting to Engineering Manager in Bethlehem, PA. The primary accountability is to complete mechanical layout using UG NX (Siemens design program) and design objectives within schedule and budget for all contracts, providing drafting support to Marketing & Sales during proposal development, and providing technical support to customers and field service on installed fleets.  
Position Responsibilities:

  • Achieve excellence in Performance & Reliability of turbocompressors, in the revamp, aero / mechanical design, construction, installation, aftermarket service and technical support functions supporting the turbocompressor fleets
  • Be the UG NX lead within the design team, supporting Project Managers, Product Design Engineers, Core Tech Engineers, Production / Sourcing / Manufacturing teams
  • Responsible for 2D layout & 3D modeling of compressors flange-to-flange and associated BOM, in accordance with established design rules and drafting standards
  • Supporting disposition of non-conformances by engineering
  • Supporting planning for assembly and field machining/installation
  • Technical lead in field installation, at Service Centers or customer sites during turnaround

Position Qualifications:



  • 2-yr Associate’s degree in drafting or technical design
  • 2 years of parametric 2D & 3D CAD-based machinery design & drafting
  • Practical knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Up to 20% travel



  • 5+ years in turbomachinery design
  • 2+ years of modeling & drafting utilizing Siemens NX 8 or higher
  • Experience with target fleet of turbocompressors (legacy Rolls Royce, Delaval, & oOEM)
  • Working knowledge of precision measurement hand tools such as micrometers, digital calipers, pi tapes
  • Working knowledge of portable CMM/scanner (e.g. FARO) and software (e.g. Polyworks)
  • Effective communication with co-workers in all levels of the organization, whether in office, shop, or field
  • Hands-on experience with turbomachinery in a shop or field environment
