The Energy Management Digital Grid Business Unit of Siemens is looking for a highly qualified and upbeat Software Developer.
The Digital Grid Software and Solutions business segment is responsible for developing large scale enterprise software solutions that include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Energy Market Management (EMM). Siemens has a global market leading position in many of these areas and is looking to further build upon that with a healthy investment in R&D. Our customers are mostly electrical utilities of all sizes, ISOs, RTOs, TSOs etc.

Position Overview

Joining the Network Applications group, you’ll be part of the team on our advanced applications. The Transmission Network applications (TNA) aid the system operator, providing applications like State Estimation, Contingency Analysis, Study Applications and many more. The Operator Training Simulator (OTS) application offers realistic scenarios for operators to train them on how to react to different situations while monitoring and controlling the electrical grid. It helps train operators on what to do in an event of multiple outages of different kinds, how to locate and isolate faults in the grid, how to restore service, and more.
Your first task will be to learn as much as you can about our applications, and to gain as much information as you can from the senior level engineers who already know everything about the application. In fact, your long term goal is to become a mentor for others within the group.
Once you have a deep understanding of the applications, you’ll participate in end-to-end development for these applications, from analyzing requirements to designing and implementing creative solutions, testing the solutions, and validating the implementation. You’ll also complete corrections and package the solution into a product that can be released. On a day-to-day basis, you’ll spend your time on ground breaking new development and maintenance, and most of your work will be hands-on coding.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

What you will need to know and have done to be successful?
  • Bachelor’s or Masters, or PhD degree in electrical engineering, understanding of power system operation.
  • Knowledge and experience in programming with C, C++ or Fortran programming languages.
  • Professional communication skills - both verbally and in writing.
  • You should have a team first attitude, and will also work closely with customers in order to design custom dynamic solutions using Siemens products to help meet unique customer needs.
  • Flexibility to travel, domestically and internationally, up to 10%.

Preferred

Step to the front of the pack if you have:
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
