Job Description:

Siemens Ultrasound is seeking an engineer to work on characterizing and regulating output from diagnostic medical ultrasound systems. The engineer will join a team responsible for controlling acoustic and thermal outputs for safety and performance, as part of the development of advanced ultrasound products. The outputs are modeled using a mix of experiment, theory and simulation. The team designs measurement equipment, methods and software, and makes measurements to populate and verify the models. Measurements are analyzed for correctness and consistency, and are used to demonstrate compliance with regulations and international standards. The work involves continuous improvement in all areas, for increased accuracy and speed. The regular introduction of new ultrasound products and methods requires frequent adaptation and learning. The team coordinates closely with groups responsible for other areas of the product design.



  • Simulate acoustic propagation fields and/or transducer thermal distributions
  • Design and develop ultrasound acoustic and thermal models
  • Design and perform acoustic and thermal measurements
  • Create measurement equipment and methods
  • Design and program tools for data analysis or presentation
  • Create regulatory reports for FDA, IEC, and other requirements
  • Investigate issues with equipment, measurements and results

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS in Physics, EE or related area with 5 years of experience, or Masters with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience.
  • Experience working in acoustic and/or thermal simulation and measurements
  • Programming experience with SQL, LabVIEW, Matlab, Visual Basic, Python or C++
  • Collaboration, communication and independent work skills

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Background in ultrasound imaging, acoustics, or wave propagation (especially nonlinear effects)
