Job Description:

Sr. Applications Engineer (High Voltage- Electrical Technical Design)

 

Responsibilities

 

The entire life cycle of the High Voltage Substation and Transmission Line will be managed and coordinated by the Sr. Applications Engineer, commencing with proposal support through the Engineering Phase through construction / commissioning and plant startup.

 

·       - Perform Overall H.V System Review for the Simple and Combined Cycle Power Plants.

·       - Act as an expert architect of the H.V. Electrical Design (Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnect Switch, Protection and Controls, Layout etc)

·       - Write and develop generic and site-specific technical specifications for any components systems and Master Document List (MDL) to clarify supplier software deliverables and due dates.

·       - Conduct design review & discuss any lessons learned with chosen equipment supplier to ensure all requirements of the technical specification are understood and will be met. 

·       - Coordinate with Architect/Engineers, partners, and Customers to support timely transmittal and understanding of supplier technical documents.  Review design documents submitted by suppliers and approve or comment. 

·        - Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)  Ensure all components are thoroughly tested and meet the performance and quality requirements established in the technical specification.

·        - Site Support: Support commissioning and start-up activities.  Conduct readiness reviews, and participate in pre-commissioning activities with supplier Technical Field Assistants (TFAs).

·        - Initiate department Research and Development projects, ensuring achievement of applicable goals and objectives.

·        - Oversee Code Compliance (NEC, IEEE, ANSI, IEC), ISO requirements (NERC, PJM, ERCOT etc.) and USA Utility Requirements

·        - Support the Proposals Department in developing proposals as necessary

·        - Work and evaluate suppliers performance data, pricing, and requirements of technical specification to ensure it aligns with deliverable.

·        - Provide mentorship to other engineers for reviewing the H.V Substation scope of work.

 

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS/BA in Electrical Engineering in related field industry.
  • 8 years of experience within electrical engineering technical design and specifications.
  • 5+ years of HV Substation Electrical Components and System design.
  • Analysis and design of HV Substation system / component operation, startup, synchronization and shutdown.
  • Experience with NEC / IEEE or/and IEC Standards for the above Electrical Equipment’s and Systems and relevant tools like ETAP / SKM etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of field of specialization to the successful completion of complex assignments. 
  • Travel up to 20% as needed (Domestic/International).

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Experience with Proposal Bid and Estimates
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Prior working Experience with an Architect Engineering OR EPC firms.
  • Site construction and/or commissioning experience with the above equipment
