Job Description:

Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated project and technical leader for the development of complex sub-systems for implementation into laboratory diagnostic instrumentation.  The position is expected to provide technical and project leadership within the sub-system development group for a specific technology area covering (but not limited to) electrical, and optical engineering.  This position reports directly to the Director, Detector Sub-System Development in the Siemens Healthineers Laboratory Diagnostics Global Engineering Organization.
 
Responsibilities
This individual is expected to lead the design, development, and integration of electro-mechanical sub-systems for clinical diagnostic analyzers.  The leader will lead the technical team with members from various engineering disciplines.  The leader will be responsible for all performance aspects of a defined instrument sub-system, and will have to deliver fully characterized results ready for system integration.  The role will work closely with other sub-systems, the lead system integration engineer, and the Chief Engineer.  The leader will be responsible for driving continuity, commonality, and a common approach to new sub-system designs across different instruments and modules through the implementation of the set based design and design to shelf methodology.  The leader must possess a strong understanding of the Agile product development process in an FDA Regulated Environment, from concept to commercialization.  The leader must be able to communicate detailed concepts to team members and be able to focus the team on priorities and drive designs to keep on schedule, ensure quality, and support launch and service.
Specific areas of skills include but are not limited to:
 
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Optical Engineering (Illumination, Detection, etc.)
  • Fluidics and fluid interfaces including mixers, and manifolds
  • Cameras
  • Firmware/Software Interfaces
  • Barcode Technologies
  • Reliability Engineering
 

Additional Responsibilities:

- Broad optical design skill set is required. Experience in some or all of the following is desired: lens design, illumination design, photometry, physical optics and interferometry

- Conceptual Opto-mechanical design

- Optical detector technologies

Additional Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:

- Highly motivated individual with a proven track record (10+ years) of innovative work with optical/electro-optical systems as both a technical contributor and project manager.

- Demonstrated ability to investigate, design and develop optical-electronics.

- Hands-on experience in the development, prototyping, testing and transfer to production of complex electro-optical

mechanical systems.

- Experience with optical test equipment, autocollimators, spectrophotometers, etc.

- Working knowledge of optical design software and statistical analysis experience are required.

- Ability to work with mechanical, CAE, and embedded software people is a must.

- Experience with EMI immunity design is preferred.

 
Education
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Software, or ) and 15+ years of industry experience
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design, analysis and simulation
  • Familiarity with optical engineering design, analysis and simulation
  • Mechatronics
  • Six Sigma methodologies like DFSS, set based design and platform development concepts like design to shelf will be desirable
  • Understanding or expertise in analysis and modeling tools like Finite Element, CFD, and others will be helpful
  • Experience with in-vitro chemistry analyzer design and development would be desirable
  • Ability to deep dive into technical issues and provide technical leadership

  • Regulated industry experience (FDA, Automotive, Industrial, etc.)
  • Exhibited leadership and accountability
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering team leadership
  • Cross-functional team membership including service
  • Project management experience for complex systems
