Job Description:

Position Overview


Systems Engineer – Electrical shall be responsible for supporting / leading the development and execution of Electrical systems for packaging of Siemens small gas turbines, turbine driven units such as compressors, generators and pumps along with motor driven compressors.

 

This position is responsible for Electrical Systems for Packaging the gas turbines projects which requires development of specifications for electrical equipment such as motors, generators, batteries, MCCs etc. This position is also responsible for development of electrical designs such as one-line and three line diagrams, developing electrical general arrangement of the package, design generator control panel, testing , debugging, and assist during  commissioning and start-up efforts.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Design complex electrical systems for packaging gas turbines, gas turbine driven generators, compressors and electrical motor driven compressors.
  • Advanced level experience with motors, generators, VFDs and rotating equipment.
  • Experienced in power management systems and concepts of load sharing, synchronization and generator protection
  • Understand the electrical utilities and grid interface.
  • Basic understanding of principles of Gas Turbines and various systems of gas turbines including the fuel systems, auxiliary systems and basic concepts of driven units such as compressors and generators
  • Knowledge of  P&IDs and develop wiring diagrams and loop diagrams
  • Experience in electrical system study using ETAP / PSSE.
  • Experience in industrial control panel building and experience in UL 508 & 508A.
  • Develop the Electrical scope for the project, provide input to project cost estimates and schedules         Experience with different industry standards such as IEC, NEC, IEC Ex, ATEX, CE and CSA along with area hazardous area classifications such as Class / DIV and Zone.
  • Experience with medium and low voltage AC and DC.
  • Design and develop one line and three line diagrams.
  • Understand the power requirements of customer and develop utilities & tie-in list for the package.
  • Create specifications for Generators, Generator Control Panels, Motors (AC & DC), Motor Control Centers (MCC), Neutral Grounding Resistors (NGR) and Battery Chargers. 
  • Create On-skid and Off-skid cable schedules for the package that requires experience with understanding the cable requirements, cable sizing and cable glands.
  • Develop cable tray layouts and sizing cable trays.
  • Create schematics, Bills of Materials for Generator Control Panel, junction boxes and cables etc.
  • Develop Electrical General Arrangement of the package.
  • Reviewing customer specification and provide possible technical options/ solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Developing technical specifications for equipment and costing to support sales.
  • Support production during the assembly, construction and testing.
  • Ensure all designs are compliant with applicable codes, standards and safety regulations
  • Responsible for supporting purchasing, sales/ application engineering.
  • Proficiency in writing test procedures, user manuals and technical proposals.
  • Design review meetings.

 

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • (BE/BS) in Electrical Engineering
  • 8 years working in Oil & Gas and Related Industries

  • 8 years experience with hazardous areas

  • 8 years of experience with NEC, CSA, IEC Standards

  • 8 years experience with Motor Control Centers, Switchgears, transformers and Generators

  • 5 years experience with rotating equipment

  • Experience with API, NEMA and NFPA standards

  • Experience with electrical equipment on both On-Shore & Off-Shore Applications

  • Up to 10% travel is required.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Gas Turbines and Generators
