The position is a Mechanical Engineering and Product design for projects within the Traction and Mobile Mining Business Segments. The Mechanical Engineer will be required to specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications of custom drive systems. In addition, the engineer will be required to research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications. This position will include engineering support through all phases of a product lifecycle (Development, Manufacturing and Support) in line with the business objectives and growth strategies. The candidate will execute (individually or as a member of an engineering team) highly customized engineering projects under supervision of the Traction Engineering Manager within the Traction Business Unit/Large Drives Division.
•Preparation of design specifications, creation and maintenance of 3D Models / 2D Drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), test plans, test procedures, and documentation necessary for design, manufacturing and customer use.
•Mechanical Engineering and Design of Structural Welded Frames
•Product Life Cycle Management Process
•Review project specifications, 3D Models, designs and drafting work with internal and external customers as required to ensure technical compliance to company and industry standards.
•Provide technical support to company internal functions during the manufacturing process to bring designs to completion.
•Provide technical support to customers and the Customer Service group to maintain existing designs and resolve customer field issues.
•Participate and perform action items as a team member involving other engineers and cross-functional team members.
•Ability to create and interpret simulations for Shock/Vibration, Airflow, Liquid cooling systems as used in Medium Voltage Drive systems.
•Travel as needed to support business objectives, system testing and troubleshooting.
•Participates in recommending ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
•Education: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or related discipline required.
•Ability to create and maintain technical mechanical models, part and assembly drawings used to capture design intent and documentation of key aspects necessary for the manufacturing and maintenance of customized medium voltage drive systems
•Ability to create specifications for complex mechanical components and systems for drive systems, achieve cost targets and functional and/or performance objectives
•Creation, control and maintenance of release packages and design history
•Data management and release process activities
•Possess a familiarity with and follow all engineering policies and procedures, FMEAs and validation methods
•Apply knowledge of Shock & Vibration to the design of Structural Welded frames used in Mobile Mining applications
•Must be able to interface with customers and vendors to resolve technical issues
•Strong organization and excellent time management skills – ability to self-manage according to a schedule
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Technical writing skills
•Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio
•Ability to travel up to 10%; may consist of both domestic and international travel

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
•Industry knowledge related to Mobile Drive Systems
•Experience using NX and TeamCenter for 3D and 2D design
•Experience using ANSYS for FEA
•Knowledge of Industry Strandards related to Mechanical Drafting
•Familiar with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
