Industrial Design Intern:

Position Overview
The Design Intern will work as part of the Siemens Healthineers Industrial Design team developing next generation medical diagnostic analyzers and systems.  The Industrial Design Group is a part of User Interaction Design within the Global Engineering Organization.  This position reports to the ID Manager and is located in Tarrytown, NY
The Industrial Design intern will utilize their creative and technical skills on a wide range of design/development assignments and related activities including:
  • Build full scale prototype mock ups using foam core and 3D printed parts for usability and ergonomic studies, to evaluate functional layouts, volume studies and cover design concepts
  • Develop design concepts and solutions for products and product features using a variety of media and tools from hand sketches to 3D CAD models
  • Compile design research including creating visuals to support industry trends, ergonomic data, Interaction Design analysis, etc.
  • Assist designers to generate product color studies and product graphics (branding and labeling artwork) using graphics software
  • Support designers with converting CAD data to use with the Virtual Reality tool for prototyping concepts to evaluate design, user and service access
  • Collaborate with designers and cross functional team members including UX, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Mechanical Engineering and Marketing
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Junior or Senior level full time student with a program study in Industrial Design working towards a Bachelors or advanced degree
  • Basic software experience: Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • 2D Software Proficiency: Adobe Suite
  • 3D Software Proficiency: Solidworks or NX, Rendering: Keyshot
  • Exposure and knowledge of rapid prototyping (3D Printing, SLA, CNC, etc.)
  • Hands on model making skills using foam core materials for mock ups
  • Strong presentation abilities using sketches and renderings (Using Wacom digital sketch tablet)
  • Good understanding of design methodology
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable and quick to learn new software programs and procedures
  • General understanding of functional mechanisms and manufacturing processes
  • Passionate about design, creative problem solving and communicating concepts/solutions
  • Provide link to portfolio samples

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • Experience using 3D Studio Max rendering program
  • Interest and experience with python programming  
  • Experience working as a design intern in a professional environment
