Job Description: Sub System Team Leader – Senior Project Engineer

Position Overview 

Looking for a Project Engineer experienced in the design and development of complex sub-systems in our portfolio of clinical diagnostic analyzers.  The candidate is expected to provide technical and team leadership within the Sub-System Development group for a specific technology area covering thermally controlled compartments (refrigerated and heated).     This position reports directly to the Senior Director (Head of Sub-System Development) in the Siemens Healthineers Laboratory Diagnostics Global Engineering Organization.

Responsibilities 

The Sub-System Leader is expected to lead the design, development, & integration of thermally controlled compartments, both heated and refrigerated for all clinical diagnostic analyzers.  They will be motivating technical teams with members coming from all engineering disciplines. The leader will be responsible for all performance aspects of a defined instrument sub-system. They are required to work closely with other Sub-System Leaders, Lead System Integration Engineer (LSI) and Chief Engineer.   This position is tasked to drive commonality & part re-use to new sub-system designs across the portfolio.  This position must possess a strong understanding of New Product Development Process’ in the FDA Regulated Environment, from concept to commercialization.  The candidate must be able to communicate detailed concepts to team members and be able to focus teams on priorities and drive designs to keep on schedule with the highest quality.  This position operates as a Product Owner in the scrum/agile hardware environment. 

 
 
 
Specific areas of need include but are not limited to;
 
This position requires a proven track record of technical project management experience in hardware design.  This leader needs to have a fundamental understanding of making parts and assemblies in many different manufacturing methods like plastic injection molding, castings, sheet metal, machining, etc.   This Sub System Leader must have familiarity with complex thermal simulation and environmental control.  Assemblies will interface with many electro-mechanical devices and sensors; candidate must have familiarity with this hardware.  This position must be able to develop relationships with external contract design firms, as well as manage a portfolio of internal design projects.  Role is considered to be an “Individual Contributor” without supervisory responsibility but will require technical team leadership thru influence.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Software Skills:
 
Familiarity of Solid Modeling Cad tools, Unigraphics NX a plus.  Teamcenter or equivalent PLM system, Team Foundation Server or equivalent, Microsoft Office.  

Education:
 
Bachelor ’s degree in mechanical engineering and 10+ years of industry experience in hardware engineering.  Masters degree a plus.    

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Experienced project engineer with a history of achievement.  Preferred candidates will have experience of managing a portfolio of products, and be able to develop long range plans for this portfolio.   This candidate will have experience in DFSS tools like FMEA, Set Based Design & Platform Development concepts like Design to Shelf will be beneficial.  Understanding or expertise in analysis & FEA modeling tools a big plus.  Experience with in-vitro diagnostic analyzer design and development would be highly beneficial.
