Position Overview

System Engineer ATS

This position involves working on projects for the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s New York City Transit, which operates one of the most dynamic and complex subway systems in the world – and one of the very few systems which truly run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This creates many exciting challenges for our team, as we support NYCT in this undertaking every day.

You will be part of a team responsible for system maintenance, development, and creation of tools to improve productivity and simplify the deployment of complex control systems. You are joining in a system engineering role that contributes to new designs, software and hardware specifications, and solving system problems. You will be responsible through all stages of a project up to and including final customer review and sign-off. You will demonstrate your experience and make recommendations related to productivity, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction. You will have an interface to the customers and internal teams worldwide and vendors

Further capabilities:

  • Design and implement new functionality based on customer requirements
  • Analyze and mitigate performance issues or unusual system behavior, including issues that involve interaction between multiple system components
  • Communicate to the customer during all stages of incidents
  • Identify root causes in the source code or configuration
  • Assist the customer to implement monitoring and measures to improve the stability of the system
  • Understand C, C++, Java, python and shell scripts
  • Be familiar with a range of debugging tools for Unix such as: dtrace, strace, gdb, mdb.
  • Be familiar with the Unix shell.
  • Exposure to relational databases & PL/SQL, and basic Oracle database architecture
  • Phenomenal knowledge of Unix operating system internals
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Systems/Network Engineer or similar role
  • General networking knowledge
