Job Description:

Position Overview

 

 

The Rail Systems Division of Siemens Mobility (RL) employs approximately 500-1000 employees in Sacramento, CA and is part of the Siemens global Rail Systems Division. We deliver product offerings include light rail vehicles, electric locomotives, diesel-electric locomotives, passenger coaches, and high speed trains. Core manufacturing processes include extensive carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.

 

As our Production Planner, you will have the primary responsibility to ensure that all Engineering Bill Of Materials are transferred into the Manufacturing Bill Of Materials using their product knowledge and ensure that the structure of the Bill Of Materials reflects the job sequence including build order, technology, and capabilities in Production Operations.

Responsibilities

• Leads in implementation and maintenance of Engineering Change Notice System for product improvements, repairs and new product development.
• Leads in implementation and maintenance of Engineering Change Notice System for product improvements, repairs and new product development.

• Coordinates the interaction between engineering, manufacturing, field operations and marketing to ensure all changes are documented for audit purpose (may include FDA, ISO, IEEE).
• Drives development of systems for and maintains engineering drawings and reproductions, project reports, specifications, product proposals and related documentation.
• Drives process changes through organization by working with the identified MRP process creators and higher level system admin users.
• Investigates Document Control processes to ensure all Procedures are properly documented, updated as needed and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Able to cover and set up a new product without guidance including working within MRP / ERP systems to add, remove, modify, and troubleshoot datasets regularly to support the production planning team.
• Able to structure, (creating and sequencing), a set of manufacturing bill of materials for different types rail vehicles and bogies. (Requires a basic knowledge of the carshell welding activities, bogie fabrication and assembly, electrical subassembly, finishing and paint, and final assembly.)
• Develops, documents, and trains on complex new department processes including training others on how “Bills of Materials” are structured and used with a work order system including setting up time standards, lead times, lead time offsets, and their effects on supply and demand.
• Takes a “hands on” approach to production planning including supporting production, manufacturing /industrial engineering, supply chain, enterprise scheduling, and design engineering to resolve bill of material / supply & demand issues.
• Understands the impact of bill of materials changes to the business and customer departments and proactively implement solutions to reduce the impact on production operations in alignment with .
• Able to cover any product with any configuration based on experience and organizational knowledge including transferring technical knowledge, manufacturing knowledge, and production planning methods from lead factories to market factories
• General understanding of lean principles and waste elimination in a manufacturing and an administrative setting.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Education: BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas. 
• Technical proficiency: 3 to 5 years
• Industry/business acumen: 3 to 6 years experience in a multiple BOM (BOMs, EBOMs, MBOMs) low volume high mix engineer to order manufacturing operation
• Work experience (including number of years: 3 to 5 years
• Knowledge, skills, or expertise: JD Edwards, SAP, Other MRP/ERP Systems
• Amount of travel with the position: 0%

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Education:  Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technician / Electrical Engineering Technician
• Certifications:  American Production and Inventory Control Society Certification – APICs, Certified in Production and Inventory Management Certifications - CPIM
• Past experience: 3 to 5 years experience in a multiple BOM (BOMs, EBOMs, MBOMs) low volume high mix engineer to order manufacturing operation
• Knowledge, skills, or expertise: Advanced Excel Skills, Windchill, K2 Work Flow, Data Analysis and Reporting
• Bi-lingual German and English is a plus 
• Bi-Lingual Spanish and English is a plus
