Product Engineer 1

Position Overview
Seeking a Product Engineer to contribute to new platform development within Siemens Healthineers Molecular Diagnostics Business located in Berkeley, CA. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced start-up environment and capable of integrating requirements from various stakeholders and have ability to balance the needs of cost, quality and time-to-market. Contributions are expected at the individual level.

Responsibilities
The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, integration and testing of instrumentation. The engineer will work within a multidisciplinary product development team to design experiments and analyze data, prototype hardware, and effectively communicate concepts and ideas.


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline with 1-3 years of relevant experience in an academic or industrial setting
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Ability to design and prototype semi-complex electrical and/or mechanical systems
• Experienced with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, Creo or Inventor
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Comfortable working in a BSL-2 environment and handling biological samples


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
• Master’s degree in engineering, physics or a related discipline
• Experience in RT-qPCR and/or sample preparation - through education or experience.
• Experience in development of products in a life sciences or regulated (CE-IVD, FDA) diagnostic environment.
• Understanding of FMEA, worst case analysis and verification/validation of product/design
• Familiar with Design of Experiments and statistical analysis tools (R, JMP, MiniTab)
• Proficient with Python, C++, or similar programming languages
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
