Position Overview


We are seeking a Manager, Sustaining Engineering to lead a multi-functional engineering team including mechanical sustaining, electrical sustaining, and material compliance. The Sustaining Engineering team is responsible for continuing the product life and improving quality after the design completion and supporting manufacturing. The Manager is the main SCM representative to interface with the development teams, manufacturing engineering, service, and project managers to ensure the product life support and product quality improvement.




  • Provide engineering leadership of sustaining engineering in multiple product lines focused on product quality, manufacturing support, and product life support.
  • Build, maintain, and functionally manage a strong multi-discipline organization including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Integration and Verification, and Material Compliance
  • Plan the engineering priorities based on business goal priorities.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Service, and Test Engineering to improve product quality and product life support
  • Work closely with Hardware design engineering teams on design transfer and design specification review.
  • Work closely with SCM Project Managers on project planning and implementation.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to debug system-level issues
  • Participate in hardware change control boards and support product roadmap discussion


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience


  • BS in BME/BioE, EE, ME, or related discipline or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Certification may be required in some areas.

·         10+ years relevant working experience or equivalent education.

·         Excellent and collaborative communication skills (both written and verbal)

·         Demonstrated good critical thinking and problem solving skill capabilities

·         Experience with leading product hardware teams through design, integration, and verification

·         Experience working with supply chain, manufacturing, and new product introduction (NPI) teams

·         Experience working with global teams and engineers in different sites and countries

·         Experience working with vendors and external partners on OEM and custom designs

·         Ability to manage multi-discipline team

·         Ability to assess risks and impacts of engineering changes

·         Ability to react to changes in an environment where products have an extensive supply chain

·         Proficient with Microsoft Windows Office tools (Excel, Word, Visio, and Powerpoint)

·         Experience with Bill of Material and Change Control

·         Ability to travel 10% to 15%


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience


·         Work experience with medical device design is highly desired

  • Knowledge in medical device regulations including ISO 13485 and CFR 820 is a highly desired
  • Work experience with SAP is highly desired

·         Project  management or engineering experience in manufacturing or service environment
