Job Description:

Siemens Mobility is seeking to hire an R&D Director supporting multiple locations throughout the US.  This position will report to the VP and Head of R&D and will lead the Systems & Software Teams to position Siemens MO Rail Automation as a leader in the product and system development of safety-critical rail systems and products, as well as communications and user interfaces. 

In this role, you will develop and implement a forward-thinking approach across the organization and within the rail industry to deliver an advanced suite of technology services. You will provide proactive perspectives on transformational initiatives and partner with the Business Unit Head and other department leaders (Engineering, Product Support, and PMO teams for example) to assess and select technologies that will revolutionize the industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the PTC (Positive Train Control), Systems & Software organization in a strategic, but traditional R&D leadership role - people management, process, product and system development.
  • Oversee Engineering activities covering all aspects of requirements engineering, Systems Design, Agile SW development, test, and V&V.
  • Support execution of, and investment in, engineering projects within an international organization.
  • Explore strategic consulting opportunities and ensures set-up of appropriate proposals (e.g. Organizational setup).
  • Support strategic, operational and organizational recommendations for the future development of rail automation services.  Decide on budget and resource allocations.
  • Oversee Systems & Software development for mission-critical programs and assignments, in terms of progress, budget adherence, communication.
  • Orchestrate the enhancement of internal methodologies and knowledge of the respective industry and transfer of knowledge.
  • Responsible for all systems and solutions development activities in the assigned organization of a business.
  • Develop strategies and implements innovation programs to increase global competitiveness.
  • Define function related strategies, policies and guidelines for the assigned part of the organization.
  • Use international R&D network and drive towards effective international collaboration
  • Support customer projects, bids, and proposals – ensure commitment to project deliverables
  • Manage competence development with your team in a changing environment
  • Lead change programs

Required Skills/Education/Experience:

  • BA or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • Strong interpersonal, management, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Advanced to expert proficiency in program management with large, complex new initiatives
  • 10 years of diverse roles and increasing leadership responsibilities across major projects and programs
  • Prior experience in the rail industry.
  • Project management experience

  • Innovative and strategic thinking
  • Domestic and International travel required – up to 2 weeks/month domestic, trips to Europe as needed
