The mission of the North America Research Collaborations team (NAM RC) is to support the creation, development and testing of innovative technology in the field of Advanced Therapies (AT), to maintain strong relationships with our scientific, technical and clinical collaborators, and to promote Siemens research and products through publications and presentations.
In the role of Director for NAM AT RC, the employee will report into the VP of Engineering in Hoffman Estates, with project budget and strategy direction provided by the Head of AT IN in Forchheim, Germany. The Director will guide team/s of 10-15 people, and continue to build a national customer network for AT Innovation research projects. The Director will also develop cross-business-area and cross-Healthineers relationships to facilitate multi-modality innovation and integration. Finally, the Director will assist with the evaluation of pre-development technology and of potential technology-based partnerships.
This position can be located anywhere in the United States.
Please note this position requires ~70% travel – mostly domestic travel with 2-3 internal trips, per year.
The Director will:
-work together with the team to identify, design, and test prototypes, with the goal of identifying and moving to product those innovations that bring most value to interventional radiology and image-guided surgical procedures
-establish a national customer network for AT Innovation research projects in very close collaboration with clinicians, engineers and top research institutes
-assist with strategic initiatives, presenting the IN projects and processes to potential collaborators, who are both existing and potential Siemens customers
-work together with IN project managers and customers to provide feedback to product definition, R&D and marketing for entering new markets in the field of therapy
-build a cross-business and cross-Healthineers network in the United States to facilitate multi-modality innovation and integration
-identify and evaluate new pre-development technology themes
-assist with IP screening and with management of the AT IP portfolio
I.You structure, guide and mentor the team/s of people who, working together, drive research collaborations for Advanced Therapies across the United States:
--Manage personnel, establish individual priorities, run annual reviews and ongoing mentoring / feedback
--Manage and build the skills and expertise of the personnel
--Recruit open positions
--Train new hires
--Promote and advance the careers of team members
--Maintain and support communication between team leads, technical topic leads and team members
II.Coordinate direction and strategic decisions regarding new AT collaboration projects (USA and Canada) and assist your team members to :
--Obtain clinical feedback from collaboration partners on AT products and prototypes and return this feedback to AT IN
--Promote Siemens prototypes and products in scientific publications and at clinical conferences.
--Mange and develop new productive partnerships with AT KOL collaboration partners while ensuring their loyalty to Siemens and their satisfaction
--Co-develop ideas, workflows and realize prototypes jointly with collaboration partners
III.Manage the NAM RC project budget and related processes:
--communicate the project funding strategy to team members,
--assist with strategic project commitment decisions
--oversee management of invoices
--create, update and support appropriate use of processes for AT IN RC
--manage interface to legal, compliance and regulatory in Siemens and at collaboration sites
IV.Coordinate and promote communication:
--between AT RC, AT IN, and other functions at AT Headquarters to ensure flow of information from team to HQ
--at all levels of the AT RC organization across business areas to ensure coordination and promote synergies in collaboration research projects, and especially with NAM VP for -Collaborations and collaboration directors from other business areas
--with NAM AT Head, BL Heads and ZBMs to ensure coordination of research with business activities at all levels
Key Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
-You have successfully completed a university degree, PhD preferred (e.g. medicine, engineering sciences, physics, computer science)
-You have at least eight years of professional experience in a healthcare company, university or clinic in research and development, or product / project management
-You have demonstrated ability in research and development activities, seek creative solutions that are highly practical, and have excellent analytical competence
-You have demonstrated leadership experience as well as the ability to build and work with a network of people
-You have excellent knowledge of the management of complex collaborations, experience working with interdisciplinary and international teams as well as deep knowledge in the management of development projects
-You have an in-depth understanding of current changes in the health system and of the changing business model of our customers
-You have some experience with contract law (e.g. collaboration agreements, response to tenders, intellectual property provisions), and have strong negotiation and moderation skills
-You are able to identify areas of clinical practice where current imaging technology and analysis methods can provide improvement
-You have high ethics, integrity and ability to work in highly regulated clinical environment
-You have effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills
