Job Description:

Position Overview

The Norwood Motor plant is seeking a technical, proactive leader to join the team as a Manufacturing Engineer primarily to program and optimize production on various CNC machining centers.


This position works with a diverse team to: 

  • Produce manufacturing work instructions, determine necessary tooling and fixtures, create and verify machine tool paths, and establish part set-up in machines to manufacture and repair electric motor components
  • Optimize tooling and machining processes to meet manufacturing requirements and manage budgets
  • Use experience and ingenuity to determine complex manufacturing processes on high cost, long lead time components
  • Develop, improve, and document processes for machining large electric motor components
  • Work with machinists in resolving complex manufacturing opportunities on high precision large electric motor components
  • Ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all aspects of the job 


  • Use NX CAM and Siemens conversational software to produce CNC programs for 2 axis horizontal lathes, vertical lathes with live tooling,  3 axis machining centers both horizontal and vertical and 5 axis millturn machines with Siemens 840D controls
  • Specify tooling and processes required to machine various components
  • Participate in and lead manufacturing process improvement projects to reduce duration and cost of machining processes for high precision large electric motor components
  • Support and lead strategic projects to bring new manufacturing capabilities into facility through new equipment or modernization of existing equipment
  • Determine the most economic manufacturing processes, operation sequence, and tooling for the machining of high precision large electric motor components
  • Support shop machinist to successfully execute manufacturing processes and complex machining activities

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BSME/BSIE or 6+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a machine shop/engineering environment
  • Experienced user of NX and/or other CAM software packages for part and tool path modeling including simulation verification software
  • Experience in implementing and/or improving manufacturing processes, information, facilities, and production planning in a shop environment
  • Ability to work with close tolerance machining on large projects
  • High proficiency in blueprint interpretation
  • Proficient with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Knowledge of tooling selection and use (Feed, Speeds, HP)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to lead / interact with teams to obtain consensus in developing processes
  • Work closely with shop floor personnel to troubleshoot issues (manufacturing process, tooling, program, machine) as they arise
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Background in various CNC Machine Controls and Programming (Fanuc, Siemens 840D, Heidenhain)
  • Experienced user of simulation/verification software
  • Project management or team leadership experience with demonstrated delivery of improvement projects in a manufacturing environment
  • LEAN and Six Sigma and Root Cause and Continuous Improvement skills
  • Manufacturing time study and manufacturing flow analysis skills and value stream mapping
  • Experienced user of SAP and Teamcenter
