Specific Requirements
The Reagent Group in the Pre-development Department at Glasgow, Delaware, has an opening for Biochemist 2 position. 
The successful candidate will apply a wide range of synthetic organic chemistry, bio-conjugation chemistry and solid phase chemistry for developing in-vitro diagnostic products.  Daily activities will include synthesis of organic compounds (haptens) and bio-conjugates, solid phase reagents, purification of the materials using preparative HPLC, flash column and other chromatographic techniques, and study of their properties using analytical HPLC, mass spectrometry, NMR, UV-visible and other analytical tools. The position will closely interact with R&D assay development scientists to develop new products and with manufacturing personnel to transfer new processes from R&D to manufacturing.  The position will also involve in existing product trouble-shooting and improvement.  The candidate will work under GLP guidelines, and for developing drug-of-abuse products under DEA regulations.  Other duties include maintaining an electronic laboratory notebook, writing technical reports, internal protocols and SOPs, and lab duties.

Desired Skills:

Able to work independently and in a team environment with R&D assay development and manufacture scientists.  Candidate must be self-motivated and goal driven. 
  • Proven experience in organic synthetic chemistry, bio-conjugation and solid phase chemistry.
  • Extensive experience in purification of organic molecules and bio-conjugates.
  • Excellent hands-on experience in instrumentations such as HPLC, UV, NMR, LC/MS and MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy and other analytical tools.
  • Prior experience in reagent development and transfer from R&D to Manufacture is desirable, in particularly, new organic reagents (hapten), conjugates and solid phase reagents design transfer from R&D to Manufacturing.
  • Ability for multi-tasking to work on multiple projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, ChemDraw and Scifinder.
  • Excellent lab work skill, executing experiments and analyzing resultant data.
  • Document lab work for IP as appropriate.
Education Requirements:
Ph.D. with a minimum of 0-2 years or Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of organic synthesis, bio-conjugation and/or solid phase chemistry experience in a related industry.  Prior work experience in a medical diagnostics field with focus on reagent development is preferred.
