Job Description:

Position Overview

As a Product Design Engineer you will report to Engineering Manager.
  • Main function is to achieve excellence in Performance & Reliability of turbo compressors, in the revamp, aero / mechanical design, construction, installation, aftermarket service and technical support functions
  • Primary accountability: achieving technical objectives within schedule and budget for all contracts, supporting Marketing & Sales in proposal development for revamps or Parts order, and providing technical support to customers on installed fleets.
  • Serving the legacy Rolls Royce, Delaval and oOEM fleets
Responsibilities
  • Being the technical lead within the design team, supporting Project Managers, Layout Drafters, Core Tech Engineers, Production / Sourcing / Manufacturing teams
  • Responsible for the BUP and BOM, standard analysis including rotor thrust, torque transmission, impeller fits, diaphragm bolting & deflection, inter-stage and shaft end seals, thrust & journal bearing optimization, coupling selection, lateral rotordyanmics, tooling design and collaborate with System / Control / Packaging engineering
  • Support production in terms of disposition of non-conformance, rotor / bundle walk-around in Olean
  • Technical lead in field installation, at Service Centers or customer sites during turnaround                          
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience in engineering design of turbomachinery
  • Working knowledge of 2D CAD knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Up to 15% travel
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
  • M.S in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years in turbomachinery design and field experience
  • Strong in analytical disciplines such as mathematics, thermodynamic, rotordynamics, finite-elements
  • Programming skills in VBA, C / C++
  • Use of precision measurement tools such as micrometers, PI tapes, portable cmm
  • Proficient with AutoCAD (2D), Uni-Graphics or SolidWorks (solid modeling)
