Summer Intern - DevOps Security Tool Chain Integration

Join our research group located in Princeton, NJ, for a summer internship starting May 2019 to support our work on developing a security tool chain for DevOps-style deployment pipelines. The intern will work on evaluating new security tool features and understanding how they can be integrated into a DevOps pipeline.
Our research group focuses on advancing and improving technology to support the Siemens Business Units in ensuring that our products and solutions are secure. This includes security testing, and methods to achieve security assurance. As an intern, you will work within our team of cyber security experts, who are advising all Siemens business units on how to advance the security of and for our customers, in products, solutions, as well as in security services.
As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to learn how security can be integrated into a Devops integration and deployment pipeline, and what tools are available today to support software development, analysis, configuration management, testing, and monitoring. You will develop software scripts to automate software builds and integrate security tools into the pipeline. What are my responsibilities?
You will work with the DevOps security team to identify what software tools and features are available, useful, and effective in ensuring security during the deployment process. You will support an evaluation and prioritization for further in depth analysis to decide which tools should be made available to Siemens DevOps software developer
You will develop software build automation scripts, and configure software tools to understand and showcase how they can be automatically integrated into a pipeline, such that their effectiveness can be evaluated.
You will align the individual tasks with your mentor, and report regularly on progress
What skills are needed to qualify for this internship?
A current student pursuing a BS/MS/PhD degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business studies or a related field
Experience in software development, software development environment, and software tools, and relevant experience in the DevOps methodology
Experience with Python and/or other scripting languages/tools, as well as integration and deployment tools (e.g., Jenkins)
At least intermediate knowledge about programming languages such as C++ and Java
Ability to work independently
Ability to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a software tool
Basic understanding of IT security
Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts
Strong presentation and communication skills – ability to comprehend solution requirements and communicate results and roadmaps
