Job Description:

Position Overview


This role is located in the Beltsville, MD (Washington D.C. area) office, and the support of other offices will typically be via phone or electronic communication.


In this role you will be responsible for soliciting pricing for construction trade subcontractors and material for individual projects across several offices in Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Pricing requests will be made electronically through the Siemens Exchange electronic sourcing tool. You will be responsible for creating the electronic solicitation, inviting bidders, and uploading of all drawings and specifications. The Project Procurement Specialist will work to ensure responsiveness to pricing requests by speaking with bidders before, during, and after the solicitation to answer questions about how to respond through the electronic sourcing tool and encourage their participation. Also, you will create a summary of results to send to the sales or operations person managing the particular project. You’ll make or recommend improvements to the process to ensure consistency and efficiency. This role will have responsibility for reviewing and approving purchase orders in SAP. Interactions internally will be with the Procurement Manager various Sales and Operations personnel, and externally with subcontractors and material suppliers.


Working alongside the appropriate branch personnel (Procurement, Sales, Operations) your responsibilities will include the following: 

  • Identify potential sourcing opportunities that would fit the use of the Siemens Exchange eSourcing tool through day-to-day contact with sales and operations personnel

  • Recommend the type of solicitation and bidders to be invited based on input from internal stakeholders, as well as knowledge, of the supply base

  • Upload provided documentation (agreements, specifications, drawings, etc.) into the tool for bidder review

  • Monitor the solicitation and ensure participation from bidders through phone calls and emails

  • Perform basic review of bid results and communicate results to branch personnel and give feedback to bidders

  • Support management and development of the subcontractor base by maintaining lists of supplier qualifications and building trust with subcontractors through daily interactions

  • Approve purchase orders up to $50,000 in value—ensure conformance with company policies

  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • High School diploma/GED equivalent
  • Recent graduates with a degree in Supply Chain Management or similar will be considered
  • 1-3 years purchasing or business experience that includes interaction with suppliers or customers

  • Ability to work both within a team atmosphere and be able to work individually in a fast-paced environment

  • Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to build trust and influence employees and suppliers

  • Ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically in both oral and written formats

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Dynamic, energetic personality that is self-motivated to succeed

  • Ability to take direction both from manager and team-members

  • Ability to work with other departments to resolve all issues

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Familiarity with the Building Technologies (BT) field organization and BT branch office processes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management from an accredited school

  • Familiarity with internet-based applications for purchasing or auctioning items (such as eBay)

  • Familiarity with project business
  • Familiarity with construction business

  • Familiarity with working with electrical installation subcontractors
