Job Description:

Position Overview

The Building Automation Service Sales Estimator is a critical role in the Sales organization. The Estimator reports to the Branch General Manager and will provide estimating support for existing end user service accounts across South Texas. This position is headquartered in San Antonio.



  • Develop and maintain deep technical understanding of Siemens building automation components and operation
  • Perform site visits to gather required information needed for estimates and/or sales presentations
  • Interpret specifications to determine requirements of contract documents
  • Take-off device counts from contract drawings
  • Where engineered drawings and specifications are not available, perform basic pre-sales engineering
  • Determine proper valve sizing
  • Determine panels, controllers and ancillary components required to create complete working building automation system (BAS)
  • Determine optimal controller/panel placement within building to maximize product capability and competitiveness
  • Generate bill of materials (BOM)
  • Collect information from other functions, vendors, and subcontractors to complete estimates as needed
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical requirements with subcontractors
  • Complete cost estimates
  • Write scope narratives and clarifications
  • Identify inclusions and exclusions
  • Complete first draft of proposal and deliver to Sales
  • Document cost and estimating activities to ensure timely booking submittal when an order is received
  • Respond quickly to Sales to ensure timely proposal response to customers


Required Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience

  • Required education: High School diploma, state-accredited GED, or state-recognized high school placement exam
  • Required experience: Demonstrable ability to comprehend, explain, and estimate labor and materials associated with the type of electrical and mechanical infrastructure required for Siemens building automation systems
  • Required travel: 5%
  • Other Requirements
    • Demonstrable ability to perform quoting and estimating functions
    • Requires technical and financial expertise with an aptitude to learn and competently use company estimating tools as well as gain an understanding of value engineering, related contractual concepts, and financial acumen
    • Proficient written and verbal communication in English
    • Must be able to work in the U.S. without the current or future need for work sponsorship

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience

  • Preferred education: Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical field to compliment the type of estimating work required for this role
  • Preferred experience: Three to five years of designing building automation systems
  • Other Preferences
    • Experience with lab applications
