Job Description:

The Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock Division is a global leader in the production of light rail vehicles, electric and diesel locomotives, and passenger coaches. The Manager- Project Material Operations manages a team of Project Material Specialists whose primary responsibility is to ensure material availability to support the planned production schedules, and that production managers have clear transparency to the status of all required materials. They interface with all stakeholders including Engineering, Strategic Purchasing, Change Managers, Order Management and Production Management. He/she is responsible for production planning, managing inventory levels, and managing materials needed for scheduled production. The Manager Project Material will manage inventory levels in a way that balances the competing needs of production schedules and company inventory levels. The Manager Project Material also works very closely with production and procurement to align the materials for a smooth production flow.


  • Leads a team of Project Material Specialists
  • Ensure material availability to meet production needs
  • Ensure clear, accurate and timely communication of all material status to production managers
  • Be the strategic leader for the planning function and drive to create world-class results
  • Reporting to management regularly on Key Performance Indicators, such as projected inventory levels, performance to plan, and E & O analysis.

  • Sets clear goals for overall performance for project material management

  • Leads the improvement of supply chain planning practices and procedures.

  • Establish order release methods for optimizing production effectiveness and efficiency as well as improving OTD of final product
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to perform various strategies and coordinate with program manager to monitor all supply chain activities and resolve all availability issues.
  • Work with purchasing team and suppliers to establish and maintain healthy pipeline of materials

  • Analyze demand variability and replenishment lead times to determine optimal inventory levels, recommend replenishment strategies, and set future planning parameters.

  • Monitors and manages inventory levels in relation to production requirements
  • Develop contingency plans to protect continuity of supply
  • Maintain KPI scorecards and ensure that material availability, inventory, supply chain planning operations, and scheduling are accurate to guarantee order flow is met.

  • Responsible for hiring, managing, training, developing, coaching, and disciplining a team.

  • Provide training, development and guidance to new and current staff.
  • Regularly provide positive and continuous improvement feedback to all direct reports.
  • Direct annual budgeting and planning process for the organization's budget.
  • Understands, follows and ensures compliance of department with Safety, ISO and TL9000 requirements
  • Collaborate across departments and analyze metrics to assess progress towards goals

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Procurement, Inventory Control, and Planning with supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Associate degree in a related discipline – business, manufacturing, or engineering degree is preferred

  • Ability to gather, analyze and present complex business data

  • Proficient in MRP tools such as JDE or SAP
  • Proficient MS Excel skills. Well versed in other MS Office products (Word, PP & Outlook).
  • Experience in an manufacturing environment
  • ISO 9000 experience. TS16949 and AS9100 a plus

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • 10+ years materials planning and procurement experience in an engineer-to-order manufacturing environment
  • Bachelors degree in a related discipline – business, manufacturing, or engineering degree is preferred

  • Tenacious and assertive with strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to lead others to solve complex problems and use sophisticated analytical thinking to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions
