The Platform Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) Manager is part of the Global Engineering Organization’s R&D team and represents the GEO R&D team as a Functional Manager driving change requests meeting desired business outcomes. The PLE Engineering Manager works closely with the Design Engineering teams and department stakeholders with responsibility to ensure product and business value propositions are met.
The PLE Engineering Manager is part of the Platform Lifecycle Engineering (PLE) organization and reports to the Head of PLE.
Implements Engineering policies and guidelines, manages and coordinates all Engineering activities in the Engineering unit assigned. Directs and coaches team to utilize optimal tools, practices and leadership techniques in directing all aspects of PLE product development activities across many projects. Demonstrates technical experience, judgement, and leadership to ensure all engineering deliverables are completed as appropriate and are in conformance with organization's established policies, procedures and objectives. Leads and directs the work of others within the assigned team. As an individual contributor, must be highly effective at leading people and improving functional excellence in the organization. The (PLE) Engineering Manager should have a successful track record of leading technical instrument systems development projects of significant size, scope and complexity in the medical device industry, or similar experience.
Manages organization unit assigned, and leads, motivates and develops dedicated employees.
Implements guidelines and defines functional specific policies, processes or methods to fulfill the superior Engineering strategy.
Plans and allocates resources and budgets to Engineering projects or activities.
Drives the development of technical standards and procedures for PLE
Ensures obeying regional laws and regulations.
Ensures a proficient and capable workforce to conduct the Engineering activities in time and quality.
Intra-organizational contacts and functionally oriented external contacts.
"Conceptual implementation": Implements technically defined concepts in an assigned functional area (both technical or administrative). Sets operational targets to the team.

Lead one small up to medium-sized, professional team (typically 4 to 8 employees) in non-routine working environment, where proficiency and significant experience in the team is needed: qualified Professionals cover defined scope of qualifications, technology fields, skills and experiences, to cope with given challenges. Group is focused and aligned to functionally given team targets.
Lead large mixed-levelled and diversely qualified professional team in a flat and/or sub structured organization; Budget authority can be connected with this level (esp. for smaller country and business organization).

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
BS/MS Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum 10 years work experience in PLM, and /or product development related field
Examples of successfully leading functional teams of increasing scope and complexity.
Expert technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
Expert knowledge of mechanical/electrical datasheets
Self-motivated, self-organized and results-oriented
Solid communication and coordination skills

Domestic travel required (~5-10%)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
Knowledge and training in Agile PM and Agile product development is desired.
Work experience in Teamcenter, SAP P41, and/or TFS
AGILE, SCRUM, Life Science Instrument Hardware
Experience in the IVD industry is desired.
Experience within the FDA Medical Device Design Control environment is desired.
