Position Overview
 

Siemens Mobility Customer Services is a fast growing business with a backlog of > $1 Billion. To execute this backlog on highest performance levels and to ensure constant growth, Siemens is looking for highly motivated and competent individuals.  

The Head of Operations (productions) for Urban Transport Rail Service Centers will be located in the Mobility Customer Services HQ in McClellan, CA but also oversee the production (operational aspects) in remote locations like Portland, OR, Phoenix, AZ and other tbd locations in the US. In those locations Siemens Mobility Customer Services will perform complete vehicle refurbishments, vehicle accident repairs, modernizations, overhauls and system repairs. 

To ensure customer and organizational success, Siemens is interested in adding a leader which has a proven success record in guiding and supervising a team of more than 50 people in multiple locations. The suceesful candidate is a true leader and capable of inspeirng and leading a team in a production enevironment in order to drive the overall success.

 
Responsibilities
 

The Production Manager will establish an ownership culture and manage a motivated team which which will deliver in a safe environmental operational excellence. Strategic thinking is a must, but should be combined with a hands-on approach. The responsibilities are include but are not limited to the following:

  • Recruting, training and developing staff
  • Developing and driving KPIs
  • Drives the strategic development of the assigned area of responsibility

  • Implements defined superior policies and guidelines, and defines and ensures implementation of function specific processes, procedures, methods and/or tools.

  • Ensures adherence at any time to relevant internal and local EHS-standards.

  • Plans and proposes unit’s budget and decides and allocates financial and personnel resources, within given limits.

  • Manages and develops all the respective work flow process to ensure all production targets (Quality, Quantity, Delivery in time) are achieved.

  • Designs and proposes short- and midterm development of his production unit (continuous improvement), and sets up and monitors completion of agreed investment projects.

  • Ensures optimum machine utilization and product scheduling.
  • Ensures availability of working instructions, rules and guidelines for all productions sections, shifts or production lines assigned.

  • Contributes to and implements productions plans.
  • Evaluates and contributes to implementation of maintenance programs.

  • Contributes to planning and supervision of contractor work orders.
  • Cooperates with concerned Sales, Project Management and other technical and support functions to execute the manufacturing program.

  • Manages assigned are of responsibility, and leads and/or coordinates dedicated Management, Professionals and staff.

 

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

 

Deep professional know-how and experience in the field of production / operations, rebuild or service shop ocations. Transfers and applies know-how to / in various contexts. Solid professional judgment and problem solving competence. Improves existing processes and approaches. Proactively shares knowledge within own team (incl. virtual & matrix team). Impact on results in own area. Internally acknowledged member within specialist field.

 

Needs advanced management understanding in order to lead and align employees in different workflows and / or projects organization environment. Planning and managing results and performance is essential.

 
  • Bachelor degree prefered
  • At least 5 years of experience vehicle production / refurbishment or overhaul environmental (e.g. rail, aviation, naval, heavy equipment).

  • Experience implementing workinstruction in a workflow and driving and improving of manufacturing process requirements

  • Basic project management skills , including developing project plans, timelines / schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating ROI, etc.

  • Practical knowledge of the lean tool box and ability to utilize lean principles to reduce waste.

  • Proven record in successful leading teams of >25 people
  • Experience in managing multiple locations would be beneficial
  • Travel requirements would be about 10-20%
