Position Overview

Siemens Molecular Imaging, a $1 Billion Business Unit within Siemens Healthcare, has an exceptional opportunity for an entry level Electrical Engineer in our Knoxville TN office. We are a high-technology business leading the change towards personalized medicine. The selected candidate will join our electrical engineering team in the development of the next generation of Molecular Imaging products. The team is composed of engineers, technicians, CAD layout specialists and student interns to effectively design and implement integrated circuits, printed circuit boards, firmware, embedded systems software, and electronic sub-systems. This position will involve the design, production and support of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) gamma-ray imaging systems with involvement in a variety of new design and sustaining projects.


Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Adapt and apply new technology and industry innovation to New Product Development achieving best-in-class performance and customer value.
  • Apply and gain understanding of all elements of development Life Cycle {high-level design, component selection, circuit design, simulation, prototype evaluation, performance testing, lifecycle testing, system integration testing and manufacturing launch}
  • Evaluate analytical methods and procedures with intention of continuous process improvement and drive for high-quality engineering work products.
  • Identify quality problems and engage in root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Establish and maintain thorough and accurate engineering log books, data sets, test procedures and generally adhere to formal documentation practices required for medical device products.
  • Cultivate excellent working relationships with internal team members to negotiate product requirements, ensure that program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and any issues encountered during the development process are resolved.
  • Develop PC Board assemblies and test fixtures including component selection, schematic design, specification capture, verification test and system integration.
  • Develop test firmware/scripts for automated testing of assemblies.
  • Integrate testing of new hardware/software releases with thorough documentation of test results and written report summary.
  • Create defect reports in TFS defect tracking system and verification of fixes.
  • Perform project management activities (scope definition, estimation, planning/scheduling and tracking/control/reporting activities).
  • Write and execute test plans to include verification, validation, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) and EMI/EMC qualification testing.
  • Transition development programs to production, investigate production test anomalies.
  • Direct service center technicians on field issues and root cause analysis of customer returns.
  • Development of engineering tools, databases, websites and hardware infrastructure needed to support the engineering environment. 

 

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive practical knowledge of electronics and low level firmware technologies.
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation (i.e schematics, component data sheets).
  • Working knowledge and use of computer system hardware, operating systems, application software, drivers and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment.
  • Demonstrates a strong drive to produce high quality results in a timely fashion.
  • Detailed examples of deliverables and accomplishments from assignments, projects and/or work assignments
  • Ability to work in teams, coordinate work breakdown, plan future activities, communicate and organize status reports
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate to all levels of engineering with presentation to Executive Management as needed.
  • Ability to participate in off-hours meetings in order to accommodate global time zones
  • Occasional (5%) travel may be required

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Previous experience in electronics development for medical devices or other highly regulated development environment
  • Education focus in: microelectronics, signal processing, analog or digital circuit design
  • Advanced computer skills, including MS Office, Project, Visio, SAP-EDM, and MatLab
  • Requirement capture and documentation in Caliber
  • Test Requirement definition and specification in ALM Test Center
  • Test Set and Circuit Design using test driven methodology

·        Experience in Worst Case Analysis and working with PSPICE modeling

·        Experience in collaborating with vendor and material suppliers

·        Experience with component evaluation, PCN/EOL alternative investigation, value engineering (cost reduction) and Supply Chain support

  • Schematic capture using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner or PCAD
  • PC Board Layout using Mentor Graphics Expedition
  • Cable Drawing and Wiring Harness design with corresponding build/assembly instructions
  • FPGA hardware design and programming in VHDL with Intel Quartus or Xilinx Vivado
  • Embedded Systems programming experience with Visual Studio, C++, C# and Windows
  • ASIC Development with Cadence Virtuoso schematic, layout and simulation tools
  • Programming for test automation and/or experience with databases
  • Experience with power distribution components, UPS, transformers, NFPA Codes and NEC Standards
  • A working knowledge of the FDA Quality System Regulation, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, ISO 62304, ISO 60601 and the EU Medical Device Directive
  • Experience with statistical analysis techniques and Six Sigma Certification
