Job Description:

Wind Service Engineer (Mechanical) – NA Region (Orlando, FL)

As a key member of the Service Technology team, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for coordination of technical case management within the North America region, departmental process definition, internal department communication, in addition to individual contribution to the solution of technical issues affecting the regional fleet.


  1. Provide engineering support to the Operations team by performing the following activities:

    1. Technical assessment in the functionality, health and performance of the following mechanical system components in wind turbines, including but not limited to main bearing systems, yaw systems, gearboxes, hydraulics system, cooling systems and structural elements

    2. Suggest engineering solutions to address customers’ mechanical issues to design team

    3. Prepare and participate in technical meetings with customers (remotely or in person) and agreed to lead on priority topics

    4. Prepare and modify work instructions and assess job hazards

    5. Provide technical support and guidance to the Heavy Lift team in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures to be used in the replacement of major components

    6. Identify technical issues trends and occurrences within the fleet and prepare technical awareness documentation to be followed by the site operations team

  2. Provide technical support for Supply Chain and Quality Management activities for vendor qualification/evaluation as well as technical responses for material solution and dispositions

  3. Document standardized business procedures and systems to support the operations team. This includes design reviews, product change management and unit configuration records.

  4. Coordinate activities for the validation of new work instructions including required resources, tooling, materials and consumables

  5. Share customer experiences, technical issues and engineering solutions with colleagues from other regions within the organization

  6. Escalate complex and wide-fleet technical issues through the Support process by using the organization’s case management tools

  7. Demonstrate professionalism and show respect and understanding when supporting all members of the organization and our external customers

  8. Provide remote support to on-site implementation PMs

  9. Identify process improvements including reduction of non-valued added operations, increased productivity opportunities and better safety practices

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:     

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Experience and working knowledge of rotative mechanical components

  • 5+ years of successful working experience in the mechanical field

  • Experience in the wind industry is highly desirable

  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solve attitude is key to this position

  • Familiarity with SAP and CAD tools is an asset

  • Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements and priorities for multiple projects or assignments.

  • Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as in a team setup.

  • Demonstrate competency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, P. Point and Outlook)

Primary working conditions are an office environment. Travel to wind power site locations is required, which may include climbing wind turbines, working outdoors in cold or hot weather, and strenuous physical effort. International travel may be required. Total travel requirement expected to be approximately 15%.
