Job Description:

In Customer Services, the Operational Purchasing Manager (order management) leads a team of purchasing representatives and controls the purchasing and expediting of materials from our suppliers to fulfill customer requirements.


The CS Purchasing Manager is responsible for supporting company cost, inventory objectives and must:

  • Lead the purchase order execution from the point of demand entry, across all of Customer Services

  • Work with Material Planners on forecast and demand planning
  • Lead and execute to Strategic Procurement strategies; cost, quality and delivery

  • Standardize and lead team on warranty claims process simplification and execution; reducing cycle time of return material to inventory

  • Work with quality management on NCR process flow for good product availability and ensure finished goods are returned to inventory per expectations

  • Continuous Improvement: Own the development, standardization, implementation, optimization and tracking of operating procedures and performance metrics for the order management team

  • Take responsibility for correct documentation and purchasing execution on defective and repair material to ensure customers’ expectations are met

  • Present & explain supply chain performance metrics to all levels of management

  • Drive process optimization, Robotic Process Automation and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Work collaboratively with cross functions to drive adoption of EDI within the supply chain.

  • Lead the team to deliver improved supplier on time delivery performance, ensuring alignment with suppliers on supplier on time delivery metrics, clarifying route cause issues and ensuring mitigations measures are implemented

  • Ensure excellent communication of order management status within the business

  • Ensure team compliance to all internal and external regulations and procedures.


Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • BS/BA in Business related discipline

  • 5 plus years team management experience
  • Expert knowledge of SAP or alternative ERP system
  • Required travel: up to 10%
  • Other requirements:

◦ Ability to work in a team environment while maintaining an individual workload


◦ Ability to perform job duties with a sense of urgency in a fast pace environment


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Rail industry experience preferred

  • SharePoint Knowledge
  • Experience with Robotic Process Automation
  • A background of process optimization & continuous improvement initiatives
