Job Description:


The Head of R&D Operations works individually and with a cross –functional team to develop and sustain systems for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) instruments for point of care and laboratory medical testing.  These medical devices provide rapid and accurate diagnostic testing for clinical laboratories and point of care clinicians for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with diabetes, kidney diseases, cardiac conditions, respiratory issues, critical care conditions, and other clinical applications.  

  • The primary objective of this position is to drive execution of critical R&D development project(s) from concept to launch, through the deployment of Agile processes across all functions responsible for product delivery.
  • This position will influence multidisciplinary cross-functional teams across R&D, Manufacturing and Clinical/Regulatory functions in a matrix organization to ensure predictable product delivery outcomes.

  • The position will also support the Head of the Business and the Head of R&D in the implementation of the overall business strategy and the R&D strategy.

  • Drive execution of R&D projects through an Agile development process
  • Develop and execute on processes for predictable and continuous R&D delivery across systems and software.

  • Set resource prioritization based on business objectives, assess and mitigate impact to projects

  • Primary escalation point for decision making and extended support required for projects

  • Manage resource capacity mapping and budgeting for critical projects
  • Provide decision making and solutions support to core teams
  • Assist in developing R&D strategy – infrastructure, people, processes and support execution of strategy.

    Support building a learning organization to expand deep knowledge across organization



Bachelor (required); Masters (preferred) in Physical Science or Engineering

  • 10-15 years in biomedical/medical R & D (industrial or academic).

  • Experience in Agile is critical, as internal Agile expert and/or Product Owner

  • Knowledge of Product Development Processes in a Regulated environment

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of engineering fundamentals.   He/she will be able to perform systems thinking (big picture view). The individual must function well both independently and as part of an integrated team.  Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
