Job Description:




Position Overview


The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist you will be responsible for managing the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) function within assigned areas of the facility in Fort Madison, Iowa. Leads implementation of programs to reduce work-related incidents, injuries, and illnesses and to protect the environment. Works across multiple company functions to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and implementation of best practices. Responsible for maintaining compliance to the company EHS systems and processes. This role reports directly to the EHS Manager located in Fort Madison, Iowa.  






• Provide direction to designated areas within the Fort Madison facility on all EHS issues


• Maintain and implement EHS programs and processes


• Conducts or coordinates EHS training and site-specific communications


• Work with the plant management to ensure operational activities are risk assessed and ensure safe working procedures are developed and followed, with any identified hazards under proper control and contribute to continuous improvement efforts


• Lead investigation groups of injuries, near misses and other events to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions


• Coordinate directly with EHS Manager to obtain guidance and support key initiatives


• Interface with the other members of the facility QEHS team to align with EHS Managers targets and objectives


• Provide support and leadership to site EHS committees


• Support cross-functional teams to improve compliance processes and overall site EHS performance


• Responsible for identification and timely submission of all applicable required EHS permits, licenses and registrations


• Prepare and submit all EHS regulatory and company required reports


• Provide support for the site emergency response plan and incident management team


• Assist with new hire orientations as well as specific in-house safety training for employees and contractors on EHS topics and local rules as well as on the job-specific risks


• Participate in site compliance audit activities (internal and external) and reviews necessary to meet company and regulatory requirements


•Participate in the inspections of the facility and interface with inspectors and/or regulatory agencies as required


•Advise Project Managers, Proposal Managers and other members of project teams in matters regarding EHS




Required Qualifications:




• BS/BA degree in a related discipline, or equivalent years of experience


• 3-5 years of EHS experience implementing EHS programs or policies


• Experience with EHS management systems, OHSAS18001/ISO45001, ergonomics, incident investigation processes, job hazard analyses, and behavior-based safety concepts as well as experience delivering core safety programs


• Strong working knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations and standards


• Participate in internal and external EHS process audits at the site to ensure compliance with EHS regulations and conformance withOHSAS18001/ISO45001


• Ability to train and motivate employees


• Strong interpersonal and superior communication/presentation skills, both oral and written


• Experience leading a team


• Strong organizational and analytical skills


• Motivation and ability to work a flexible work schedule, if required


• Ability to shift focus and organize priorities in a fast-paced environment (plant runs 24/5)


• Travel up to 10% when necessary




 Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with maintaining environmental permits

  • Experience in a diversified industrial manufacturing

  • Experience with topics such as overhead crane operation, energy isolation/electrical safety, fall protection, machining safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous waste, etc.
