Intern – Cybersecurity Web Development

Join our Cybersecurity Research Group located in Princeton, NJ, for a 6-12 month full-time (20 hours/week) internship starting October 2019, and investigate on approaches to and develop secure web applications for enterprise environments.
Siemens Corporate Technology is looking for an intern to support our work in developing a secure web application for management purposes. The intern will develop new features and functionality (UI and backend) in the area of web-based process automation, and will especially be exposed to the cybersecurity aspects of such applications with the goal to create a secure application in a DevOps approach.
Our research group focuses on advancing and improving technology to support the Siemens Business Units in ensuring that our products and solutions are secure. This includes secure software development, as well as security testing, and methods to achieve security assurance. As an intern, you will work within our team of cybersecurity experts, who are advising all Siemens business units on how to advance the security of and for our customers, in products, solutions, as well as in security services.
As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to learn how security can be integrated into existing web applications, and what tools are available today to support software development and testing. You will develop dashboards for web frontends and enhance existing features. What are my responsibilities?
You will develop features and improvements in web applications used to automate processes in the Research Group
You will support the development of a security testing framework to continuously ensure the security for web application development (DevOps style)
You will work with the cybersecurity team to identify missing security best practices in existing web applications and help improving overall quality of web applications.
You will implement dashboards and demonstrators for projects within the security research group
You will align the individual tasks with your mentor, and report regularly on progress.
What skills are needed to qualify for this internship?
A current student pursuing a MS/PhD degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or other related subject with a strong focus on IT-Security or Cybersecurity. Please note, you must still be enrolled as a student during the internship period to qualify for the position
Experience in web development
Experience with Python and/or other scripting languages/tools
Experience with client-side frameworks (AngularJS, ReactJS, jQuery) is a plus
Experience with databases (SQL, MongoDB) is a plus
Experience with API technologies (REST, JSON, XML) is a plus
Ability to work independently
Basic understanding of IT security
Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts
Strong presentation and communication skills – ability to comprehend solution requirements and communicate results and roadmaps
