We are currently recruiting for 2 talented Senior Mechanical Engineers to work at our Oxfordshire site.  This is a superb opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join our magnet engineering team. You will join a multi-disciplinary group in our Engineering Department and will work to maintain our “state of the art” competence in magnet design, technology and manufacturing processes.

These vacancies are senior technical roles within the business, with opportunities for high level development for globally minded, commercially astute technical experts, or, alternatively, potential development to other technical and management roles.

Siemens MR Magnet Technology are the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of superconducting magnets for magnetic resonance imaging – over a third of MRI scanners installed worldwide have at their heart a magnet manufactured in our Eynsham factory.  The business has been awarded several Queen’s Awards for export success, two Best Factory Awards and an IMechE Manufacturing Excellence Award, and is justifiably proud of its engineering and manufacturing heritage.

You will be developing engineering solutions from first principles and hold technical responsibility for the delivery of associated technology.

What are my responsibilities?

Plan, design and implement magnet related mechanical design. Build prototype and perform corresponding component unit test and write qualified test records


Create and maintain engineering design drawings/BOM and relevant technical report.

Support hardware development related process improvement.

Solve technical issues of responsible components from production and customer sites.

Collaborative programmes: Establish and manage programmes with external commercial and academic institutions to utilise comprehensive range of expertise.

Innovation: Generation, facilitation and evaluation of innovative design solutions to ensure competitive product performance and intellectual property portfolio.

Technical Standards: Define, review and ensure compliance of, internal and external technical standards including purchasing specifications.

Benchmarking: Evaluate competitor products, technologies and intellectual property to ensure competitive performance and support of Siemens Marketing.

New product Introduction - Carry out new concept design for new product development.

What do I need to qualify for the role?

Degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering, Science or Technology subject.

In-depth experience in a specialist field with broad knowledge of the design and manufacture of superconducting NMR/MRI magnet systems or relevant other industrial/academic experience

A general understanding of complex assemblies and their interactions

Demonstration of the ability to develop cost-effective and innovative solutions to deliver to business strategy or identify new opportunities.

Some project management experience delivering new product development components

Experience of production environment

Some experience of technical leadership

Experience of working across cultural and global boundaries

What are my responsibilities?

  • Support the manufacturing processes within one of our three manufacturing cost centres
  • Working with the engineering team and the operations team to jointly deliver quality, productivity and output.
  • Resolving internal and external process issues and maintaining our zero harm culture.
  • Developing and implementing new processes and manufacturing equipment, to enable our new product and continuous improvement agendas.
  • Developing new product processes from conception stage, through prototyping and into product launch and volume manufacture.
  • Management of Capital investment and infrastructure projects from functional specification creation through vendor selection to commissioning and manufacturing release. 

 

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • A Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering/ Material or Physics (or related subject) or equivalent experience.
  • Significant technical experience in manufacturing engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of personally implementing improvement activities within budget and timescales.
  • Demonstrable problem solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to solve a range of technical issues and develop cross functional relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills

 

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is be part of our innovative engineering team, driving continuous improvement activities, as well as leading your own projects to further enhance our processes.   • Ownership of the manufacturing processes within one of our three manufacturing cost centres
  • Working with the engineers and the operations team to jointly manage quality, productivity and output.
  • Solving manufacturing problems to resolve internal and external process issues, and maintain our zero harm culture in the process
  • Developing and implementing new processes and manufacturing equipment to enable our new product and continuous improvement agendas.
  • Developing new product processes from the conception stage, through prototyping and into product launch and volume manufacture.
  • Managing Capital investment and infrastructure projects, from functional specification, creation through vendor selection to commissioning and manufacturing release.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to assist in the development of graduate engineers.

 

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • A Degree in Engineering, Science, manufacturing (or related subject) or an extensive equivalent experience.
  • Substantial and varied technical experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Good track record of personally implementing substantial improvement activities within budget constraints and challenging timescales.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and experience of managing project teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to deal effectively with a wide range of complex technical issues, and develop cross functional relationships.
