We are recruiting for a Principal Structural Design Engineer to join our offshore substation platform engineering team based in Manchester. Structural Engineering point of contact for the Siemens offshore team.
Lead Structural engineering designs associated with large-scale offshore wind projects.
Developing and delivering structural engineering solutions from conceptual, detailed engineering design, fabrication/construction, installation and commissioning.
Technical representative in structural engineering for all dealings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and other organisations.
Review of the structural designer contractor’s works, with special focus on the technical review of the produced documentations.
Technical interface and control between structural designer contractor and other design stakeholders to include Client and Fabricators.
Preparing/reviewing engineering specifications for designs of offshore steel structures, material, welding, fabrication and corrosion protection strategy.
Assess engineering documentations, feasibility and compliance with client requirements.
Review and approve design documentations from design supply chain related with offshore structures prior to be issued to the Client.
Ensure structural designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
Provide technical support to the Project teams in engineering matters concerning not only the design, but the construction and operation stages from structural point of view.
Maintain an up-to-date technical knowledge of the structural engineering standards applicable to offshore substations from bodies such as DNV, API and ISO.
Degree qualified in Structural Engineering discipline.
Significant experience in offshore structural engineering projects; typically completed at least 3 offshore topside/foundation project designs. Offshore substation platform experience is advantages.
Significant experience and knowledge of design development and construction phases of offshore structures (topside and substructure).
Demonstrated ability to implement and apply the design of offshore wind structures to the requirement of DNVGL-ST-145.
Proven capability to implement and apply the fabrication/construction of offshore wind structures to the requirements of DNVGL-OS-C401 and EEMUA 158.
Ability to represent departments or project teams regarding engineering issues, decisions, standards or industry best practice. Deep knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards and applicable offshore regulations.
Proven ability to influence design decision and writing clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects.
Detailed knowledge of the different design scenarios (e.g. pre-service, in-place, sea transportation, heavy lift).
Detailed knowledge of main calculation procedures for primary steel definition.
Detailed knowledge regarding grouted connection design overall procedures.
First hand technical knowledge of complex structural simulation problems, including relevant experience with structural analysis and FEM.
Implemention of ALARP and CDM in a design.
Accomplished communication and interpersonal presentation skills.
Good standard of IT literacy - especially Word, Visio and Excel.
Good written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
Manchester based with requirement to undertake short trips away from home as required.
Flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the business.
